Whilst the effect of tyre pressures upon steering lightness, maintenance, steering boxes, springs and steering wheel size, can be widely debated, I would like to respectfully point out the purpose of tyre pressures.
Tyres provide the contact between the vehicle and the road surface. Tyre pressures directly impact on the size of the contact patch between the road surface and tyre.
Over-inflation will cause the centre of the tread to 'crown', reduce the area of contact on the edges of the tread and cause premature tyre wear to the centre.
Under inflation will mean that the tyre tread centre will go concave reducing contact area and increasing wear on the edges.
Tyre pressures are determined by the car's weight on each axle as well as the tyre aspect ratio and size; high aspect ratio tyres are more compliant than low aspect ratio tyres.
It is generally accepted that for competition driving on road tyres an increase in tyre pressure reduces sidewall flex and improves handling making steering input more precise and more responsive. Drivers in competitive trials reduce tyre pressure to increase tyre compliance and traction.
Formula Ford drivers increase tyre pressure for wet races to improve grip by reducing the overall contact area thereby reducing aquaplaning.
Tyre pressures should not be used to mask the impact of poor or inadequate maintenance. The recommended tyre pressures are a good guide.

Ok thanks guys for all the suggestions.
The steering wheel is a large one.
Your suggestions have given me some avenues to explore.
I will try increasing tyre pressures and also grease the front suspension.
Then take it in stages from there.

Does anyone have any idea as to what size and thread all the grease nipples are through out a 1958 plus 4
kingpins
transmission universal joints (long thin /tall nipples)
Foot pedals
clutch grease in footwell for carbon thrust tube in bell housing / transmission tunnel
