Anyone on here need a 50 year old slide rule? No thanks mate, I've already got a couple, including a rare circular example!

I'm using some of my wood to build my coffin. When you see the cost of coffins..... Sort of yes, you can take it with you....!
Is there a prize for most morbid hobby of the year ? If so, you've got to be in with a shout for the 2017 award Peter. You need to talk to my friend Richard. He's not a Morgan owner, but he is an undertaker!

Mines a Thornton......... I just had a look at my conventional slide rule (can't find the circular one) and the only manufacturer's mark on it is a symbol with 'P G'. It's an engineer's rule with scales to convert Kilowatts to Horse Power and stuff. My guess from the style and appearance is that it dates from the 1950's, it was my FiL's. A couple of minutes googling has revealed that there's a whole community of slide rule enthusiasts out there! Shame I have to work today, but at least I can probably find out a bit more about it.

I am currently re-jigging my computer room, oh dear I have about thirty years of software and 'bits that may come in handy' I haven't touched in ages.
This spring I have promised myself to have a big declutter!
The last time I had a declutter of computer parts (several years ago and long overdue again) within 2 weeks I had a friend asking for a 5-1/4" FDD, his had just died in an old PC that he used purely for something to do with his small orchestra. What had gone in the clear-out? Yup my last 5-1/4" drive...

I have my Dad's cylindrical, plus a portable mechanical calculator... We'll be OK for calculations after the next EMP destroys all these damn rf pollution boxes

Graham, you've triggered memories of my early days in banking when we used a Monroe mechanical calculator (affectionately known as Marilyn) for foreign exchange transactions. I remember the great excitement when Sinclair's first electronic ones became available.

I remember the great excitement when Sinclair's first electronic ones became available. In my army days we used a Brunsvega mechanical calculater to convert Map coordinates. You set the pins on the wheels on the front and then wound the handle clockwise or anti clockwise depending on what mathematical function you were performing.
