I know some have installed additional oil coolers and most just run with the standard oil line plumbing that came on the M3W.

I know that in the UK you don't see many 90° days, but in the US and specially out on the left coast, those temps are seen quite often, if not over 100°.

So what is the average driving oil temp?

I have fitted a dual digital Oil Temperature and Oil Pressure gauge to my M3W and before I subsequently fitted a pair of 140mm dia Spal fans (1 behind each cylinder).
If I got stuck in traffic the oil temeperature would, on occasions, reach around 110°C (230°F) without the skip fire mode kicking in.

Since fitting the fans, when I see the oil temp coming up to the upper 90's, I manually switch them on to bring the temperature down.

I don't know what temp the factory cooling pack cuts in at.

Please see below an extract from an earlier post of mine entitled "Mods to my M3W"

I have always considered it useful to know what the oil temperature and pressure is at any time, and to this end I have mounted an SPA digital dual display gauge on the dash so that it is visible through the steering wheel.
The guage is connected to the sender units which are mounted in a sandwich plate that mounts between the oil filter and the engine casting.

I am not a great lover of the appearance of the cooling pack provided by the factory so have decided to do my own. This consists of a pair of 140mm diameter SPAL fans mounted on a vertical stainlees steel plate with the fans positioned one behind each cylinder.

The fans blow onto the cylinders and seem to work well. They are wired independant of the ignition and are switched on by a switch under the dash when I see the temperature gauge going over about 90�C.

Mobile on their own website say that Mobile 1 - which S & S always used to recommend - is good to 260 degC so you should be ok!

I always use full synthetic on my vehicles. I guess all my but '76 Harley, in that I run straight dino 60w. Doesn't work hard or get very hot.

That's an AMF Harley. How long does oil even stay in it?
