If you consider the 2 house solution,U.K. plus elsewhere, remember that second home in UK is liable to higher rate stamp duty I.e. If you already own a home anywhere (UK or abroad) then the UK purchase incurs the higher rate. So if buying 2 homes in similar timespan buy the UK home first

If buying two properties in the UK

1. Partition spousal assets, house in sole name
2. Divorce
3. Non property-owning spouse buys second property
4. Later remarry for IHT-free inter-spouse transfer

Seriously. What has the UK come to when it is so financially disadvantageous to be married (loss of married person's allowance for us youngsters, no transfer of unused personal allowances, and now this...)

So that I can take my holidays when I want in the UK and not burn any aviation fuel. Also spend money in Britain.

I do likewise but sans caravan, I can foresee no reason to obtain another passport at all the last one having expired about 12 years ago now.
Interestingly the local businesses saw quite an upturn late on in the season last year which was thought to be as a result of the Brexit issue, lets hope it carries on this year.

Well I have been to France, UK, Bavaria, Italy, on and on, lived in Hawaii (thanks to the U.S. Navy) and spent 87 years in the State Of Washington. I like Washington, I hiked, sailed, skied, had a good job and retired in My Little Waterfront Abode. But I like to drive My Morgan. Imagine driving down the Rocky's from Jasper in Canada to New Mexico on the twistiest roads imaginable. Or Highway 1 on the Pacific Coast almost the length of California. There are Morgan Roads without end in the Western U.S. Weather, take Your Pick. Southern California, to Northern British Columbia. And Hey We almost speak English here.

A good point Button. I loved San Francisco on the occasions I was there and I doubt it has changed much in the last 25 years (can it really be that long?).

The coastal section of Hwy 1 north of San Francisco is fantastic. When I was on 101 Freeway the speed limit was a slow 55 mph and I was accustomed to travel on divided roads at speeds closer to 70 mph so I tended to drive much faster than the law abiding Californians.

I understand that the Freeway limit is now 65 mph and that some interstate highways are now 70. I have been told that traffic on 101 in the Los Angeles region is often faster.
