I'm planning a trackday at Goodwood in the Aero 8 (series 5 with side pipes). Goodwood have a noise limit of 98Db and I'm concerned that the car will be louder than that. Does anyone know what sort of decibel reading a 4.8 with side exits would make?

My suspicion is that side pipes on your Aero will be over the limit. BHM do a track day at Goodwood - why not ask them? They'll know for sure.

I am not sure how the measurement is taken at Goodwood (perhaps others do?) but at Castle Combe , the scrutineer told me to rev the car to 4000 rpm and hold it there for about 10 seconds. My +8 (Rover V8 not Aero) was so far below the limit it hardly registered.
My experience of the Aeros on side pipes is that they are rather noisy on the overrun , and when lifting off , when at constant throttle they are normally less obtrusive.
There may be an app you can download for the phone and then use that to check?

Same system at Goodwood Andy... they ask where you change gear on the rev range and test you at that point with a microphone poked up yer spout.

Same system at Goodwood Andy... they ask where you change gear on the rev range and test you at that point with a microphone poked up yer spout. With the C43 in sport Plus mode it would, I suspect, fail.... it is rated at 74dB in comfort mode....and 82dB is the legal limit. It is a lot louder than Tarka, which has rear exhausts and Sports Plus adds a lit of noise. People tend to look....for the idiot in the lowered hot hatch!!

dont know whether you can still buy them but you used to be able to get temporary baffles to put in the ends of exhaust pipes

Maximum 98 dB at 0.5m from the exhaust and three-quarters maximum revs static test and 96 dB drive-by at approximately 10m on-track. The measurement is at 45 degrees to the exhaust and best done with the car hot. If you pass the static you'll get on track and then if you break the driveby the marshalls will call you in and give some advice. My M3W on Morgan Stage 1 exhausts only just scrapped through so I would definately get it checked before you book. If you can get to Goodwood beforehand they can normally arrange a test - give them a call. More details: https://www.goodwood.com/experiences/driving/goodwood-track-days/
