I have to say, I think for a M3W the Aero Leathers Barnstormer which Martyn Culling has recommended in the past seems to be the most suitable jacket. Being horsehide it is naturally waterproof......

If i were to buy another motoring jacket, it's the one I'd buy.

Incidentally, I have an Irwin flying jacket. It's lovely, but for me it was far too warm for most days. Perfect when it's below freezing; hardly surprising as those were the conditions it was created for in the first place.

Thanks for the advice. Bearing in mind i will only need for 6 months, as the car will be exported to Malaysia.

The average temp there is 26c to 38c with 85% humidity, so i will not be using it there.

So why are you spending money on a coat for the depths of a British Winter? Hell, I've got an official M3W Superdry lined leather jacket (Size L, Dark Brown) I would loan you.

ps Like all Superdry, the sizing is very fitted (ie smaller than it sounds). I am 5'10" with a 42" Chest / 31" Waist and it is very snug on me - ie t-shirt &\or baselayer underneath, no jumper.

Trouble with 3/4 length driving jackets is that they don't tend to sit right in the car. Although they look great walking around and are the practical choice outside the car, they're not brilliant once sat in the M3W. The bottom of the jacket has a tendency to rest on the seat therefor pushing the jacket up and under your chin. Short jackets work well or jackets with expandable sides. A Barbour short international, or Belstaff maverick waxed cotton to me looks good. I've got Harley leathers which are heavy and my painted sheepskin which for most of the year is simply too warm.
I love the look of the Superdry M3W but they don't make them for the portly gentleman.
The Dakota gulf McQueen looks fantastic and works well but doesn't handle road dirt well. Similar story with Alpha short and practical with super size pockets and a front map pocket which zips across half the front.
Triumph make some fantastic jackets including mesh with waterproof removable membrane but if it's waterproof you need for sustained driving then there is nothing better than Rukka, but for that guaranteed dry you'll pay a premium for wearing the best.
I'm going to try my Suxtill this year see how it stands up and always using the tonneau across the two of us if it rains. You've got to love jackets eh!

I use and love an A2 for mildly chilly days and my Irvin for the really cold stuff. Both by Aviation Leathercraft in my case. I like the earlier post, " buy cheap, buy twice". Both of mine are years old but look barely worn in. A twice yearly feed with Gliptone leather cream and they continue to serve me so well. With any luck I hope to pass them on to my son should he show an interest when the time comes.

Oh, and call me pedantic but I can't help myself as I would always hope someone would correct me if I were getting things wrong, but, it's Irvin, not Irwin as in earlier posts. Whilst we're at it, but going slightly off thread, I keep seeing people writing Centra when as most of us know it's Centa.
