My father's favourite vehicle was rather large and rather green and it had a heck of a lot of passenger seats. His main mode of transport was via a pair of size 8 leather shoes which he wore to walk to the colliery 3 miles away. He started work down the pit when he left school and worked there until he retired. He treated himself to a bus ride home when it rained.
They don't make 'em like that anymore.

To add an antipodean touch to this thread, I think, I hope, my dad's favourite was the 1972 GTS Holden Monaro with the 253 V8. Yes he could have ordered the 350 ci but that's not my dad. Ordering a four on the floor V8 was enough of a challenge to his Scottish side. However I'm guessing. Perhaps his favourite was first car I remember, the early 50's Morris Cowley ute in which us farm kids were carted to town and Sunday school in the same way pigs and calves were taken to market. In winter we were provided with a blanket and huddled against the cabin to escape the wind.
The morris was followed by almost every model of Holden from '58 to the present day. But the Monaro was the only car with any sporting pretensions and I think it might have been his favourite but I will ask him when I see him in April, just ahead of his 92nd birthday. Once the question is put I will have to settle in for quite a while as these days he tends to tell stories that equal the Iliad in length, if not in character and drama. He will have a glass of Black Douglas while I will open an aussie red and we could cover quite a few miles and memories. Make the most of these times, mine passed on at 56,

My father's favorite was the 1951 Triumph Renown he bought in 1960. I used to chew the hand straps in the back and recall the taste--leather and decaying elastic! His other favorite was the 1959 Rover 75 I learned to drive on. His first was a 1929 Triumph Super Seven bought after WW2. It had been sitting idle on someone's driveway for years. He slammed a door and the body collapsed! He the built a plywood covered two seater roadster body. The car was called Prudence. He died suddenly at 47, three weeks after his father.

Father had a Riley nine, think it was a monaco. He then bought a second one, to keep the first one on the road. Thats how life was after the war. Also had a test drive in a JAP three wheeler, but to small for a wife and child. Still remeber the ride, must have stirred some thing.

Passed away too early at 64 before we had that sort of conversation but being an ex wartime Spitfire pilot cars by and large left him unmoved, probably an Armstrong Siddley Sapphire, it was like travelling in a living room.
He also had a Morris 1000 with a Lotus twin cam in it so maybe that one.
He's up there somewhere flying something or another in formation with the rest of his old squadron.

I remember my dad speaking fondly of the ex german volkswagen jeep type vehicle he drove in n africa and italy during ww2. Later in life he had a new Austin A40 farina And then an Austin 1100. He died at 63. Mum passed her test on the 1100at 65 after trying 6 times and said the 1100 was too big and bought a Mini instead. She sold it at 80yrs old and passed at 82.

My father loved big, heavy cars. The first I remember was his '55 Buick Roadmaster, a giant four door sedan he bought new from his brother0-in-law, a Buick dealer. It was creamy white with a turquoise top and a light blue interior and an engine-turned dash panel. He had a succession of them after that one. My mom's car I remember so well was a very early '64 and 1/2 Mustang, silver blue with a blue and white interior--I was 21 at that time and thought it was a great little car.
