True, but on my lift the fundimentals of the engineering involved means that I think it's very safe to work under. I NEVER go under it without having the mechanical stops engaged.
That's why I said in my first post you need to see some in action and not just hear the sales mans talk.

They all have mechanical stops , click , click as you lift up its locking into the next locking mechanism .If it doesn't say so on the spec don't buy it !

CE marking is ambiguous. For many standards, the CE mark can be applied based on self certification (RFI emissions and susceptibility standards on electronics for example). Any safety related standards should be specifically identified on the machine. In the case of a vehicle lift, you are looking for:
BS EN 1493 is a European Standard that applies to stationary, mobile and movable vehicle lifts. It applies only to lifts which are not intended to lift persons, but which are designed to raise vehicles totally, for the purpose of examining and working on or under the vehicles whilst in a raised position.

I know, from an electronics point of view, that many products from the Far East do not meet CE standards under certain circumstances. However, part of the approval is to provide self certification that standards, such as EMC, are met. Unfortunately, self certification is a nonsense in many cases...
All I can suggest is that you buy from a reputable company/brand. Utterly, unless you already trust the company, the CE mark is irrelevant!

They all have mechanical stops , click , click as you lift up its locking into the next locking mechanism .If it doesn't say so on the spec don't buy it ! Not correct, as the car is raised you indeed hear a click as the safety stop is pushed back and the springs back. By that time the lift has risen a bit. When you get the car to the correct height for you, in most cases it is between stops and from a safety point of view, you have to drop the lift back on to the stop most people do not do that.

This lift on you tube IS NOT A GOOD CHOICE ! Please be careful on your choice of lift, we don't want anyone hurt. I wouldn't rule out a scissor lift. You can do practically any job you need to do, they are mobile, non-intrusive, and inexpensive.
In the extremely rare occurrence when you might need access to the centre of the car, all you need to do is rest the car on trestles and drop the lift out of the way.

Tim , I want to have around 1.7m min under the car ie standing height.I've just rung C J Autos who go to all the car shows , theirs is their own design but made like everything else these days - the far east. The fact that they sell to the likes of you and I only and exibit at all the shows is a good sign , if there is a problem people would flag up any issues .
