I would have to agree with your view on the difference between English and German workers. I have German family (my German niece is staying with me right now) and I spend at least a month every year in Germany and have done as long as I can remember. I think your view is spot on. Germans seem much more conscientious about their work than the British. I know, as you say that is a sweeping generalisation BUT on the whole that is my experience.

That said, in the British's defence, the fact we tinker and try things differently to that told is what makes us more creative and that in itself is a real asset. It can be no coincidence most of the F1 cars are built in the UK. When a problem presents itself (as often did in war - WWII), the British can excel in their creativity for a solution.

Horses for courses. The world is a better place for the Germans and the British and often the meeting of the two can produce great things when coupling creativity with quality. If I'm not mistaken the original Spitfire was actually a coupling of minds between the Germans and the British - The Supermarine water race aircraft pre WWII.

Maybe this was the case many years ago, but last time I had a meeting with a large German machinery company the lead engineer was a Yorkshireman from Castleford.

Is it possible that, beside mental differences also the "not in the same phase" historical development of industrialisation shows some specialities between the UK and Germany?
In England industrialisation took place some time earlier, and in Germany the change was later, and may be a bit more sharper.

I mean it in a way that in the UK craftmanship has survived beside industrialisation and shows a long tradition up to this day. Craftmanship requires more creativity than working under totally standardized conditions, like an assembling line (which is in your country also existing a lot of course).

But I think, there is this difference in the tradition. In addition to deal with smaller UK companies makes more fun, because the contact can be closer and is more personal. For example I purchased some nice speakers from Stirling Broadcast recently and I was happy that some important information came directly by Doug Stirling via some mail exchange. They are a small but classy company for instance where all is handcrafted or at least hand assembled.

jimmyP, If you are still here, sorry for the very
late reply! Somehow I missed your post.

The rubber was basically some kind of rubber floor mat cut to shape with one of the industrial strength glues, probably something like Gorilla glue.

S5 in for warranty work, mainly issues already mentioned here.

Water ingress from both doors, windscreen wiper failure (seems to be a dodgy connection quickly fixed). horn, Parrot antenna (damaged due to poor placement so roof interfered with it).

Not much else.

I am having the exposed wood in the rear wheel arches heavily protected with Boat Varnish though! :-)

What's your chassis number - it'll be one of the last.

I'd recommend putting something inside the wheelarch - I had a stone ping in my nearside wing on my first weekend. A thick layer of good fashioned underseal would probably do the trick.
