Hi Keith. Worth doing a quick check to see if your axle u bolts are tight. Oh yes that's another common one, but would be clonky not popping?

I would check the bottom support mounting brackets for the shock absorbers on the back of the rear drums. They have been known to crack. I would also check that the top two bolts that hold the u bolts to the leaf springs are tight. You may want to take a look at the rear leaf spring mounting bolts by removing your spare wheel and checking them, give them a good spray with chain oil or duck oil while your at it.

It's probably worth whipping off your brake drums and checking everything is ok inside the drums. Plus while you are in there you could check that the bolts holding the back plates to the axles are all nice and tight. They have been known to work loose.

The noise may well be a click or light tap rather than pop, I will use your suggestions with the help of my local dealer (l wish I had just a little more garage space and expertise!)
I first noticed the problem immediately after some intentional 'brutal' braking carried out during a road test - if that suggests anything?

In the last week or so I've been getting a low level but very audible short 'popping' sound when braking, about 20-50% of the time. The noise appears to come from the rear and when having it checked out by my local Morgan garage, the noise closely resembles the sound produced by moving the rear wheel on its end bearing play. As such, this has for the moment been put down as a Morgan characteristic.
Has anyone else had this experience? I would be very grateful for any suggestions that may lead to a solution.

Check the screws holding the rear brake drums on to the hub. If they loosen off the drum can move slightly when the brakes are applied. Happened to me, there was a noticeable click/clonk. The screws had not been tightened/loctited properly at service
