Have driven the Aero and 3 wheeler but never a traditional Morgan. Something in my head told me they wouldn't be my cup of tea.

With Williams dealer being 5 miles from my parents house, I have however popped in numerous times, mainly to look at the Lotus's (I'm on my 6th) and the caterham (had 3). The Morgan's however kept catching my eye.

So yesterday I took the day off work and took my Lotus Evora for a drive down to my parents, with an excuse to pop back into Williams. This time with weather being good I thought I would find out once and for all what a traditional Morgan would be like to drive.

After a bit of discussion at the dealer it was apparent a V6 Roadster would probably be best model for me to try. They had a 3.0 one I could demo.

So off we went for a test drive of approx 15 miles. Within a mile the metal centre of steering wheel had fallen out into my lap and had to be put back in numerous times. There was a strange whistling coming from front of car, which later I was told was probably an ill fitting front light.

The ride was OK, but it didn't inspire me to push the car too hard in the corners.

The "slow" steering rack caught me out at first on tight corners. How many turns of the steering wheel !!

BUT I loved the car. The sound, the torque of the engine, and even the antiquated chassis which held me back from driving too fast, all added to the character. I can imagine one of these sitting in my garage beside the Lotus in a couple of months time. Just need to do a bit of research whether to go Old school plus 8 or 3.0 V6.

Am I now officially old ? wink

Dave

No ! You have some fantastic Lotus cars which are the best handling in the world , the Morgan is a very different beast but it has also attracted me mainly due to its quaint looks . I can understand exactly what you are going through , they are completely mad cars to drive without needing to go fast !

I'd say old school Plus 8, but I'm biased.

No not old!!

If you have a look in this months Classic and sports car there is a good 3 page article about buying Plus8s - the Rover engined version.

Thanks for quick responses.

I'm trying to be a tad sensible as I usually only keep my cars 3 months, so want to minimise depreciation hit too much wink

I was very close to buying an Aero S3 around three years ago, until the dealer reversed the car into a pillar !

3 months isn't really long enough to iron out all the little warranty issues.....let alone learn to manage the slow steering......suggest you allow 6 months to fall hopelessly in love.

Am I officially old

Now, that is a topic all of it's own. Just how old does a person have to be before they understand the Trad. Morgan?
