I am going to Life's Morgan on Monday 20th March to have my first proper look round and test drive of a classic Morgan. Is there anything in particular that I should be looking at and what are the pros and cons of each model. It would be a car for weekends and holidays.

You could write a book about this........... smirk2 .

Really just don't start with any preconceived ideas. Have a test drive of what takes your fancy and it should become clear.

Lifes will look after you, test drive both variants as they are very different, I would also test drive a 4/4 and a plus 4 as well for comparisons, you will know when you find the right one.

These cars are all about emotion really - you just have to drive each of the variants and fall in love.

Enjoy your choosing.

Dave.

Though some may disagree, it is also worth trying a 4/4, if for no other reason than a comparator for the more powerful variants.
I know am biased, but 4/4s can be huge fun to drive.

One thig you might want to bear in mind is that the old Plus 8 ie the one with the Rover V8 engine had as standard something like 150bhp. This is the same power output as the modern Plus 4 and is roughly half of that of the Roadster which uses the American Ford Mustang V6 engine.

Obviously this affects performance. But after trying all the Trad Morgan variants, my feeling was that the chassis being a bit limited and old fashioned, the most pleasant of the trads was the 4/4. There is a lot to be said for thrashing the nuts off a lower powered car rather than having to restrain yourself with a higher powered one. Its a personal view but I felt that the Roadster with 270 bhp had more power than the chassis could handle and was less fun.

For the sake of accuracy the 3.9 V8 is 190bhp and 235ft/lb catalysed. The 3.5 V8 on carbs was 184bhp.
More than adequate in a 940Kg car for most people.
