....alias Barney The Buzzard has been spotted coming and going at odd hours at the Skunkworks facility deep inside the High Noon Speed Shop facility. It seemed rather odd to say the least so late last evening after Barney left we sent in a special team of agents to see what he has been up to.

After reviewing the photos we found he has designed and built a specialized air scoop for Spitfire II. It is made of solid steel and painted Old Cat Yellow. That's all we can report for now but please stay tuned!

Similar principle to the G56 'Spitfire' cover?

The High Noon Speed Shop custom air scoop is precisely fitted at the back so almost no air can escape through the rear therefore forcing all the air directly into the filter. Once moving the custom air scoop should also help force in the cooler air that is out in front of the big Twin-V instead of all the hot air coming off the engine and gearbox. Both of my 32's thrive on cool air and hopefully this may help the big Twin V breathe just a little easier!

Just keep in mind that these air filters do not take kindly to water and will choke off the air flow when wet.

Unless there are other provisions that allow for the water to be routed to someplace other than the filter itself, this could be an issue if caught out in the rain.

They do make a rain sock that will keep water out and let air pass through. I have one that came with my Harley for my exposed air filter.

This "may" not be an issue, but just thought I'd throw it out there just in case.

Look cool though... smile

I'd second that, as I have experienced this phenomenon myself in steaming rain last summer. I'd also make the observation that one of the restrictions in the stock airfilter cover is that it only draws air in at the bottom and the mouth is generally considered too small. To seal the rear and further focus all the breathing through a small-ish opening might not help as much as expected. The overall bigger G56 cover allows air to enter all round, plus it has a serviceable front scoop, so overall it breathes much better. Suits the free-breathing exhausts well too of course, as was the design intention.

Just my view though.

...well I just caught up to Barney The Buzzard and asked him about these air flow and rain issues with our newly designed Spitfire Air Scoop and he just smiled. After pressing the issue a little more he said "no worry when using the Rocket Fuel".I said wait a minute Barney where in the world did you get Rocket Fuel? He said down in Rockcreek. I said there are no gas stations down there in those hills. Oh no that's not Rocket Fuel....that's where all the bootleggers hang out and run their stills.... you got to be kidding! That's White Lightning BARNEY.......!

So I asked Doug our High Noon Speed Shop lead engineer, engine builder and ole time car and motorcycle drag racer if he thought the air cleaner would provide enough air to the big Twin V engine. He looked at it for a while and said it should be "adequate" and the new scoop should help improve the air flow.

In the meantime ole Barney has been spotted going in and out of the shop at all hours again........stay tuned!

........Barney the Buzzard busted!

Early this morning, we entered High Noon Speed Shop and immediately noticed the M3W uncovered and shop tools scattered about. We knew something fishy was going on and then noticed the front of the M3W. Well enough is enough, and we called Barney in for a little meeting.....more like an interrogation!

Once Barney arrived at the front office, I asked him what he was doing adding that bright yellow painted shield to the front of the M3W? And why in the world did you need your portrait painted on it? And I see you have High Noon Speed Shop painted on the bottom plate too!

After a couple long draws on his awful cigar.... Barney proceeded to tell me that the front round shield is painted old cat yellow for safety reasons. I yelled safety reasons...he replied... yes, you can see that old cat yellow a half mile away! I said then why is your picture painted on it? After a few more puffs of his disgusting stale cigar, he mumbles because I'm the top buzzard around here!!

I then pressed the bragging buzzard about painting High New Speed Shop on the front plate that I intended to put a professionally made Morgan plate on. Barney answered because this is the craziest place on the planet and he didn't want to embarrass Morgan!! He tipped his old cigar and waddled out the door...

You know he just may have a point there....
