Is how I'd describe out new Car policy. The Nanny Company has taken over.
Get this: all intended to mitigate risk and protect the employee.
1. Only 4 seat cars, excluding convertibles or SUVs, and less than 3 years old may be used on Company business...so I cannot use Tarka anymore or my Mercedes CLC!
2. Private cars may be used ONLY as a last resort and only for a trip of less than 180 miles in a day. (Why?) Even so Senior management approval is required.
3. Pool Cars should be used whenever possible
4. If no Pool Car is available then an AVIS rental car should be used.
5. If arriving at an airport after an overnight flight a Taxi or public transport MUST be used. It is forbidden to drive any car until the following day.
So, I live 30 miles from a site where a Pool car may be available and 26 miles from the nearest AVIS location. It seems I am required to get a Taxi to take me to either the AVIS location or the Company site.
Talk about time-wasting. Sorry, had to get that off my chest.

Ah that good old one-size-fits-all big company feeling ?

The last large firm I worked for had a similar policy they introduced 7 years ago - the only difference being that the car firm employed was Enterprise and the nearest to my home is 25 miles away. Naturally I always insisted on them delivering and picking up.
They tried to hit you for previous minor damage to the vehicle so I made a big job of photographing each side of the car before accepting it.

If you don't like company car policy: run your own business. (I do not use my Mogs for business trips. I dont think they are appropriate)

Had a lot of trouble with Enterprise when my BMW broke down. Refused to pick the hire car up at the agreed time and said i had to arrange the insurance if it was on a public highway. and that i was liable for any parking fines in the extra time.

Written by HR (hardly relevant) who have never travelled out of the office by the sound of it. HR departments are the bane of the modern workplace. One of the main reasons I'm happy to be my own boss. Okay, so is my boss, but nobody else gets to tell me what to do.

The travel policy outlined by Peter is a standard public sector format. Pool cars or hire cars. It's looking like the new build government hubs won't have any parking for staff.
