Sorry to start another thread on this topic!

My local tyre place claims to be able to do it but admits they don't have the special cones!

Any wire wheel balancers in the NE? - preferably close to Teesside/N Yorks.

Jack the Lad might know...?

Incidentally here are the special cones - £75 a pair - perhaps a group here could buy and share?

The things I do for you lads I am going to have to change from JTL to YG .

Try C+S Tyres Middlesbrough the bloke here is a classic car nut so I am told or Platinum Tyres Middlesbrough . If stuck give me a shout got another few but you will have to stop being a TA and come more than a mile away from your home. Also let me know if the first two are good so I can put them on my points system .

Nigel, can't you get your local MSCC group to purchase a set for members' use?
I remember years ago Norcemog purchased a 1'' reamer for members to ream their bushes. It almost got worn out but that was in the good old days when we all worked on our Mogs.

I'm not an MSCC member. Not really a club sort of person - but TM is a bit different, it's a community, rather than a club! And not defined by region.

Thanks will look them up! A lot of misinformation out there - tyre places that say they can do it, but actually can't, and don't want to understand, argue that they have done it before without problems.

I used C&S last time, will ring them. Platinum (Stokesley) say they can, but actually don't have the cones. Happy to go maybe 50 miles for this, so let me know any others JTL! Yorkshire Classics in Ripon claim to be able to do it...

I will dig out the one that done mine tomorrow it can glide along a straight road at mph hands off the wheel for a very long stretch . Is Platinum the ones that also spray classic cars and work on them if so he is a con man . so keep well away. I thought they where just a tyre place in Middlesbrough

I can also highly recommend Barry's Tyres;I have been there several times after Ken kindly suggested them.

Barry keeps one of the 'old style' balancing machines in the rear of the workshop and seems to have all the adaptors for wire wheels and the centre lock magnesium type on my Aero8.

I was also impressed with the time and care he took to personally ensure my wheels were balanced correctly - and he was not expensive either

Just looked into my files spotted I purchased some tyres at Barrys tyres and he gave me the run round did not tell me in advance he could not balance them . Also a bit of a pig to get into his garage as its a very busy road into Newcastle and Gateshead if you dont do it daily and know the way its hell .

I phoned to see if they still do them and they said no problem .
Its straight up the A19 into the Tyne tunnel if you go so put 1/70p in your pocket for each way to save time . When you come out on the North side ITS 30 MPH BEWARE others shove you it lasts a couple of mile and cameras . Take the coast road to Whitley Bay and its behind the old football ground stadium . If you go have a a/noon in Tynemouth fish and chips are good .
