I went round Home Ales brewery in Nottingham when I started out in Customs & Excise. Later on I was involved with Wards brewery in Sheffield for a few years.
Then we did an audit at the Frog & Parrot micro brewery. "Roger and Out" - highly appropriate for Graham............
Despite all that I don't really like beer.

Burton may have better water, but is now more about corporate brewing factories. There are a micro breweries there but nothing as good as the Castle Rock, Alcazaar or (in Loughborough) Charnwood breweries.

Wine and only ever with food

(The occasional pint of bitter with friends at a pub)

I don't have a cellar to the house so I have a wine storage cabinet that keeps the wine stored at 12 degrees (middle of the cab) and at the right humidity to keep corks from drying out

I mainly buy half bottles now just to drink with meals during the week, just to stop us over drinking on evenings and keep the full bottles to when we have friends over

I tend to always decant a red wine

Stewart, with due respect for your sensible nature.

For someone who is as sensible thats a decent sized collection.
Quality wins over quantity !

Mainly stocked with Chateau Musar - most vintages from 1997, Sarget (second wine from Gruard Larose, some nice Gran Reserva Rioja's, a few Rhone, a couple of mixed casss from the Meerlust Estate and a very nice case of Burgundy that I daren't touch for another 5-6 years

I've bought a few cases of Bordeaux 2015 En Primeur which I won't get for a year or so, so no hurry to drink

Very nice.

If you would like a lighter but still pleasant version of your Meerlust then Tesco have a decent drinkable red called Ringbolt which is an Australian Cab. Medium fruity softer but quite full bodied. It generally sells for about £10 in their larger stores.
