Washed the car this evening after LOS, drove a couple of miles and the engine management light came on.

The manual says.

"The check engine tell tale light will illuminate amber if the engine management system detects a fault with the engine system that may result in damage to the engine or environment"

Lovely, but it doesn't tell me what to do next. So can I assume I'm okay to complete the LOS in a counter clockwise direction at the weekend. Or should I call the factory.

Won't they suggest an Italian tune up?

Try to disconnect the battery during 10 minutes.

Or turn off the general circuit breaker if you have one fitted.

Hi John,

I think the clue is 'washing the car'. Most likely water in the electrics causing random lights to flash. It's not uncommon on Aeros!

Let it dry out and check again if the light is still on.
If so - reset (disconnect battery) and see if it changes.

IF not then ring factory.

Fingers crossed it's just a bit of jetwash finding it's way round the dash...

Thanks guy, Rich never had an issue with the series 2.

Dear John,
on some cars the light stays on for some time even after the fault itself has vanished. Depends on the car, maybe 10 minutes, maybe three cold starts or so.
Assuming there is water in some sensor and produces an erroneous signal, this may disappear after the car is dried.
The dealer may read out the memory and check what happened.
My car is still dirty ...

Good evening John, since my current Morgan only "speaks electronic" to me, I bought a translator on-line (almost FOC nowadays). It helps me, 1. to understand what's wrong and if it's a crucial part and 2. I can do a reset myself if necessary, when the engine management light lights up.

The simply let it dry fix hasn't worked, but this maybe a solution to the problem as the nearest dealers is 50 miles away.

Thanks

John,
as I said: wait. And give the car two or three short drives in which the engine just warms up. There are different time presets or event counters to reset the light.
Or drive to the dealer. Usually it is some kind of sensor (air temp, water temp, lambda sensor, accelerator pedal) which is just out of range.
