Following on from my stone chip winge earlier in the week I've purchased a Chipex kit for my car.

Having had a go today I'm not so sure about the product, though it could be me. I'm finding that during the blending process, when the excess paint is approaching the same level as the original, a skin seems to have formed which then drags the paint out of the chip. I've tried various drying periods prior to blending but it doesn't seem to make much difference. I'm very mindful that I don't want to leave the paint to long before blending.

Can anyone offer any advice and expectations?

Andy the process needs careful timing.

I set my timer on a test chip and went from there.

When taking off the excess just gentle wiping is best - otherwise you will pull out the fresh paint.

For deep chips I let some paint dry in part of the "hole" and then finished with a second application.

Its not easy - and requires testing and patience - ha yes - and testing your patience!!

I think Neil has it right, I have used the chipex touch up with great success. You just have to take your time.

One tip that I found to be very useful is to use a document hole punch to make loads of small circles of very fine wet and dry paper. These can be stuck to the end of a pencil and used to rub down very small areas.

The other thing to remind oneself is that it's very easy to spot imperfections when you're concentrating hard and staring at it from a range of 6 inches, but when you're stood up and looking at it from a range of 6 feet it looks fine.

Imight be tempted to use a little filler stopper first, then a top coat.
