Late last week I was driving my 1995 4/4 in very heavy rain and had main beam, spotlights, heated seat and blower on! All going fine until a car came towards me and I dipped my head lights and turned off the separate switch for my spotlights which are operated manually by a separate switch.

I lost all my lights. Engine still working fine. 4 way flashers fine. Heater fan fine etc. Heated seats ok. Brake lights ok. Just the lights. Wont bore with you how I got home but got home sadfely.

Today I have checked all the fuses - all ok.

Headlights don't work nor tail lights. Main beam works when I "flash" them with the headlight stalk but not otherwise. Rear fog light not working but obviously only works when main lights are on anyway I think

Any ideas? Not sure where the earth is?

Grateful for any advice from this very helpful forum! If all else fails I will take iy up to the brilliant Mike Duncan at Hartlebury but would like to use the car this weekend and I don't think this can be very complicated.

The common denominator is the main/dip switch, but unless it is the feed to the switch I would expect you to have either main or dip.
However, when you say you have checked the fuses, have you metered them? Blade fuses are notorious for appearing to be OK when they have a hairline break which is very difficult to see.

But one did appear to have a hairline break (possibly) and wondered whether we had done that levering it out. But in any case replaced it with a good one and no change

2 possible options, you have one more fuse hide in somewhere
or your main switch (control unit) got heat, one think you can do is unplug from the power your separate switch for the spotlight (the problem can come from here), the flash and the regular are not in the same power line.

When it happened to me it was the main/dip switch, which on my car is a landrover part (from a Discovery I think).

Replacement from landrover agent was about £35 and took about 30 minutes to fix

Yes I suppose it has to be the switch doesn't it. Otherwise the lights would not work on the stalk.

Those cars had no relays in the lighting circuits so the load on the switches was very heavy. My '92 Plus 4 burnt out the main switch several times and the dip switch a couple of times including once when we were in Norway with no chance of a replacement. The car is probably also fitted with a dim dip unit which can throw in some strange failures although that was what meant I had some lights when the dip switch failed in Norway.

As you have no side lights the main switch is the most likely as Chester.G suggested. I don't thing they are affected by either the dip switch or the dim dip unit.

GoMog has a wiring diagram which may help.

http://www.gomog.com/allmorgan/wiring1990on.html

If you decide it's the dip switch there are several variants with slightly different connectors. I used a Morgan supplied part for mine as at the time you could still order direct from the factory and even then I had to change the connector slightly.

Good luck

Dave

Thanks. Very helpful. I live very near the factory which is also useful and the car is driveable in the day time.
