Has anyone experienced an irritating cracking noise under the dashboard of their M3W when they hit a bump on the road. It sounds like the ash frame shifting against the body.
The noise disappeared during conditions of heavy rain in Sydney Australia & reappeared when sunny dry conditions returned. Suggestions to solve the problem?
My M3W was delivered in September 2015.

They do creek and groan ! but i had my dash hitting the frame so i wedged a bit of rubber in-between . the body is rubber mounted so lots off movement expected!

I know it's heart stopping but

A. check for torsional cracks on the chassis on the top tubes as above the compensator as they disappear behinds the body just under the cowl. You'll need a flashlight for the inspection.

B. Also ensure the body is still riveted and taught at the rear and none of the rivets have broken free or are loose - where the wood subframe takes hold.

C. Check your coil bracket is still attached and not cracked loose.

I hope it's none of these and something really simple but you still need to do the inspections regardless.

I have a 3/15 build. I occasionally hear the same loud "cracking" noise from the dashboard area when going over a bump. Haven't figured it out yet.

After close examination under the dash, I think the cracking noise, which by the way sounds like the noise you sometime get if you sit down hard on a wooden chair, has got to be the ash frame moving against the body. High humidity & the noise disappears due to the wood swelling. I have sprayed the frame with a teflon aerosol. yet to check under dry conditions. Only other problem with my M3W so far has been a failed fuel pump at 500km, fortunately close to home.

i had this previously, check bolts securing frame to chassis (left and right at beginning of leg tunnel and tighten them if required.

I would also suggest checking the frame to chassis bolts. There are 3 or 4 of them down each footwell with 10mm nylock nuts and Allen head bolts. You may need another pair of hands to assist with the ones at the far end of the footwell. I went round and nipped up all the nuts and bolts up every couple of months for the first year or so, until it all settled.

Thanks for the advice on how to solve the problem with the cracking noise near the dash board. There is no sign of a problem with torsional chassis cracks, loose rivets or the coil bracket.
I tightened the bolts securing the frame to chassis at the top of the leg tunnels & the bolts down the inner sides of the footwells & also the bolts on the floors of the tunnel. If anything the noise is now worse!
Is their anywhere else that I can tighten?
I am taking the M3W to the service outlet in Sydney next week for oil changes of the engine & bevel box. I will ask them to investigate.
