.........hold on not so fast!

I've recently been reading about all the aftermarket muffler systems to improve the M3W. I am impressed with the improved performance and engines running cooler. However, the total cost including crating and shipping to the US seems pretty pricey.

My friend, Grockle, told me right after he recently installed his Morgan Stage I kit that I would eventually want to improve mine. Then I went for a little cruise last week on a warm evening, and I noticed the fan was on almost immediately and continued running all the way home as well. Did you notice I said warm not a hot evening!

That really got me thinking, and I checked out Magnaflow's stainless steel muffler options. Many of the top end street rod, hot rod and high end performance auto manufactures use Magnaflow mufflers for the quality, performance and sound. But could I find one that would work on the M3W was the question.

After some research, I found one that would work. However, at 4" diameter, I knew it would have to be a precise fit to make it work. I had an old Summit Racing gift card from my wife, Linda, in my desk and they just happened to have a $25 discount if you spent $150 and free shipping for any order over $99! So I ordered two Magnaflow mufflers, two 48" polished stainless steel tubes and a small roll of stainless steel welding wire for my little Hobart welder. In all I have less than $300 in this M3W muffler upgrade.

Well, this evening after five days of on and off work, the project was finally completed. I was nervous starting the M3W this evening, but in just a few trial trips up and down our long driveway, I was just tickled pink! The Magnaflow's have the pleasant low tone groan but not too loud. The best news is the fan never came on until I was putting it in for the evening. So the M3W is definitely running cooler and sounds just right to my ears.

I tell people all the time in my writing, blogs and posts if I can do this anyone can, but Linda reminded me today to give myself more credit than that. I'm not looking for credit here, but you will need a few mechanical, engineering and welding skills to pull this off. Maybe you have a friend who could help or a welding shop nearby.

I now want to do a few road tests and a few videos and should have more to follow including a complete article soon. So please stay tuned!

They don't call them Magnaflow for nothing!

Nice fitup there. Get those videos up of the exhaust note on youtube already. Would love to hear how that sounds. Especially if you have a before and after.

I've been a fan of Thrush as well and they have a perforated core in stainless steel as well but instead of the squared off cylinder like that it curves into it. Longer body length though 25" in total vs the 20" like on that magnaflow.

Either way I'll stop before I ramble too much. I like em though, almost a shame to hide them cause they look kind of mean against that matte olive.

Wonder how many buzzards worth of power you'll pick up with them. Surely there has to be a equine to avian conversion out there.

Love it - this is definitely worth thinking about. What brackets did you use for the silencer/muffler and the heat shield.

How "open" can the exhaust be and still have the stock ECU tune work, i wonder?

Pretty sure the fans come on at pretty low temps... like 200°.

The fan comes on at 100c and below 10 mph so it's unlikely changing the exhausts would have much impact on these.

They do let the engine breath properly and transform the car.

They look great! Can't wait to hear the difference they make in heat dissipation and acceleration.

If one were to commission the High Noon Speed Shop for a pair, would it be possible to get the pipes, post mufffler, to follow the contour of the 3W body?
