Interesting..... Worth suggesting to the Australian authorities With Euro4, you not only have to demonstrate compliance to a lot tighter set of criteria, but you also have to be able to prove that the vehicle will retain compliance for at least 20,000km

In the US, for cars at least, the requirement is 50k miles and 5 years on emissions warranty. Not sure what the EPA requires for motorcycles...

Absolutely. Will the X Wedge motor be able to meet these requirements or does Euro 4 mean that the M3W effectively dead in Europe? Perhaps this is why MMC has put so much effort into the E3W....

Perhaps this is why MMC has put so much effort into the E3W.... one point i know is S&S don't care so much about EU regulation i have try to buy a Zero Engineering bike with and S&S Knuckle head S&S never want to provide any certificate , saying they have the Pan Head certified they don't want to test the Knuckle. ZE try to push them but they don't arrive (i have the copy of their email exchange) Maybe is the same with the X Wedge

Thanks PaulV the Bennetts article makes most interesting reading.
I now understand - well in broad terms - the issue facing all Bike engines.
I can see why this is a major issue for MMC .
Naturally I hope that a solution is found.
BUT having read the article I also now know that lot of work is needed between now and early Sept ( when MMC have stated they are to restart Euro M3W production - maybe that should read HOPE to restart).
Good luck to all involved.
Needless to say it will be interesting to see what mods are needed to the current design to be compliant. The Exhaust system may have to change quite radically??

Isn't this new legislation just a case of having a go at the poor relation?
It states clearly that motorcycles do relatively low mileages so their negative impact on the environment must be minimal when compared to lorries, passenger aircraft, large ocean going ships and gas, oil or coal fired power stations.
I think the environmentalists should be focusing their attention in other directions.

The environmentalists work on the car because it's the more easy, try to move a Gas corporation and they will have several judicial battle, also working on car & bike everyone can see they try to do something. But after they discover car manufacturer cheat their testing system
