I shall be embarking on a complete rebuild of a 1960 4/4 Series 2 sometime this year.

Is there anyone in the TM world who has either a 1960 Series 2 or a 1960 Series 3 as I want to check where the indicator switch is fitted, as by 1959 or 1960, I believe that indicators became standard and what was previously a spare switch in the centre of the panel became a three-way indicator switch. The switch for the optional indicators was previously a white rotary switch mounted on the dashboard.

Any knowledgeable assistance appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Hi David,
This is our 1960 dash panel which is original other than the addition of the tachometer. I hope this helps and if you need more detail please let me know.

4/4 Series II dash panel

Hi Jeff. Thank you; this is exactly the information that I was seeking - perfect! I will probably fit a tachometer and mount it in a similar position to your car.

Have you a water temperature gauge fitted?

There are a few other questions that I'd like to ask. How wide is the body of your car measured above the rear wheels? Mine is 48" overall; 46" internal.

What diameter are your wheels? I was expecting them to be 16" but mine are 15"; I've since read that 15" wheels were fitted from sometime in 1959.


The other question is what engine and gearbox have you fitted to the Series II?

Glad to help!

Here is a link to a complete collection of photos of my Series II. This car is all original except for newer paint and the tachometer. The original tires are with the car, but not mounted. They are 15 inch Dunlop bias ply tires and I can add photos of them if needed.

This car was in storage from 1963 to 2012 and only has a bit over 3000 miles so is a good resource for what a Series II would have been when it left the Morgan factory.

David, I forgot to point out that a couple of the switches on the subpanel of my car are reversed from what is shown in the original handbook, so you may want to look at the handbook, too. I have one if you need to see it.

A fantastic resource for serious restorers

Thank you Bert, that is nice of you to say. It is a delight to drive, as well.

I may have mentioned elsewhere on the forum, but that little flathead engine is so quiet, smooth, and energetic, it makes driving a real pleasure. The car seems really balanced- power, weight, brakes, steering all work together well. On paper, it seems that 36 horsepower would be a let down, but it is actually quite satisfying.
