After my Mogs first foray into my regular Manchester commute, around 45 miles each way, it's developed a very annoying squeak from the rear near side. It seems to be coming from infront of the rear leaf fixings, probably around the hub area. I've not had chance to have a proper look yet, but I'm hoping someone will be able to suggest the most likely culprit/fix in advance;apologies, I'm a total novice Thanks in advance...

I would check the leaf spring retaining "U" bolts are tight as a first measure.
Give the springs a coat of heavy lubricating oil as well.

I spent a long time tracking down a squeak from the rear of my Plus 8 trad. For a long time I thought it must be springs related and greased, oiled and waxoyled away to no effect. Finally I located the source as a loose screw fixing the spare wheel mounting support bracket, the bracket therefore able to rub against the (dry) wood frame. I'm not suggesting that your issue is likely to be the same thing but simply recording that much time was spent chasing red herrings.

Andy R,
I have had a squeak from the rear on all of my Morgans. I just spray everything I can see/reach with motor bike chain grease. It has always worked so far however I still don't like the idea of not knowing what caused the problem but nothing has fallen off or failed yet. Good luck in your endeavours.
Here for a good time not a long time!! Reg

I use duck oil spray on the springs and mounts and it works for me. This was suggested to me by Keith at Brands Hatch Morgan after I had a squeak that would not go away and spent money on chain oil and other stuff that did not work.

I use motor cycle chain oil in a spray can - works well and with a straw on is easy to apply.

Also consider the plastic beading strip between the wings and body. As the car flexes these rub and can squeak. Some use ACF50 which is a very good anti-corrosion oil, other 3 in 1 oil. I would avoid WD-40 as it is hydroscopic (absorbs water). Personally I used ACF50 applying with a small syringe along the beading and wiping any excess away with a cloth.
As other have said also check the rear springs and make sure they do not rub and woodwork also shackles and bolts, also shock absorber bolts can become loose.

Thanks for all the suggestions/ideas. I'll get my spanners and grease out at the weekend.....
