Hi all after about 1100 miles my compensator is singing rather loudly and making a clattering noise. Morgan service dept said stop driving as it can damage the engine does this sound correct? As I have only had my car since last September from Bell and Colville should this be covered by the warranty as it has failed or is failing and maybe causing damage to the engine? Any thoughts of anything else I should have done at the same time if this is covered? Cheers Paul

Stop driving it ASAP. If the compensator fails it could go so far as to bend the splines on the crankshaft. That will require a new crankshaft and a basic engine rebuild.
Been There Done That!
Mine was out of warranty but Morgan made a small attempt to compensate me as the original compensator was woefully designed and has since been replaced by the Centa unit. Pulling the engine out to swap out the compensator is bad enough and will cost a lot. If you are still under warranty then you should be fine.
If the engine becomes damaged it will require shipping the block to S&S for a rebuild. You really don't want to have this happen.

Hi Paul,
Call Phil or Andy at B&C.
If your's is pre 2014 and hasn't been upgraded you'll have the old style compensator. If so it's worth upgrading ot the Centra and you should get this at least part paid under warranty.

Hi Chris why only part paid if it has failed during the warranty period? Should I ask for anything else to be done that I should pay for at the same time?

When mine failed MMC offered to replace like for like with the old style of compensator or alternatively they paid the labour and I paid for the upgraded compensator.
The Centra upgrade is about £1,000 so quite a chunk of change but has lasted over 12,000 miles without a problem so far.

I'm waiting for a new chassis & having the centa compensator at the same time. Morgan quoted £695 +VAT parts, no labour cost. I'm getting the clutch checked at same time.

Am I the only one that thinks MMC are out of order charging for a replacement part that's only necessary because the original isn't fit for purpose ?

NO, contact your consumer authorities and you might be surprised how quickly this is resolved... Am I the only one that thinks MMC are out of order charging for a replacement part that's only necessary because the original isn't fit for purpose ?

You are not the only one thinking this. Much good luck in having Morgan own up to this fiasco which is totally in their making. Think "Comfort Kit" which we had to pay for to correct an obvious design fault which was also potentially deadly.
