Food without wine? Just wrong!!
Maybe so, but I've never found a wine that really goes with my bacon and eggs at breakfast. Champagne?

I've got no idea what you guys are talking about. As I had the opportunity to explain to the Wild Mogs at Caramulo (at the event's dinner and while tasting some good red wine they never previously heard about), portuguese consumers don't know foreign red wine, only consume portuguese red wine, and portuguese red wine is only consumed by portuguese. I guess we drink it all, no need to export. And we love our wines, no need to import (map taken from this article: https://jakubmarian.com/wine-consumption-in-europe-by-country-per-year-per-capita/)

Ah.....that was a lovely meal to finish off the event Mario 😜🤓 and I recal, that the wine was rather palatable as well!
Interesting how low Spain is in the consumption per capita and Britain relatively high.

I'm a big fan of Portuguese wine - particularly the Douro reds. The Portuguese are not alone in preferring the local produce. In France you could be forgiven for believing that nowhere else in the world makes the stuff, as very little decent non-French wine is readily available.

The map is very interesting
I'm surprised about consumption in Denmark, Slovenia and Portugal being so high compared to elsewhere

£20? 😳........and you live in Yorkshire! 🙄 Yes and that's all I'm prepared to disclose. Remember that I and MissW have been in competition for years as to who can get the most letters published in Decanter magazine. At present we have a truce on six each with one star letter each. A star letter equals a free magnum of Champagne.........

After my 8+weeks sojourn in Lisnave shipyard in 1991 I always keep a look out for Portuguese red wine when shopping. Don't see it at reasonable prices too often though, sadly!

Three years living and working in Cape Province was a wonderful experience back in the 1970's and the wine experience was enjoyed to the full.
We then lived and worked in Germany for a couple of years and fully sampled all they had on offer and very much enjoyed them as well.
Neither of us are fussed about wine anymore and herself doesn't drink alcohol at all - I'm more than happy with my single malts and a pint or two of real ale nowadays I find there is a reassuring honesty with these two products and less faux snobbery.

I'm really fond of the wines of Francoise et Denis Clair, especially the Santenay. Not really cheap, but good value for money. And I've tried a few 😊

And I've tried a few 😊 Santenay is always (relatively) good value in Burgundy terms because it is so much larger than most of the Appellations. That's not to say that it(s any worse, it's straight supply and demand.
