Hi from sunny Perthshire.
As a long term elise/exige owning tarmac whore who enjoys trackdays, I am more than nervous about my Morgan "coming out".
I am considering the purchase of a 4/4 sport for weekend smiles and occasional trackday entertainment.I am being reliably coached by my lifelong friend (and local Morgan Dealer) but would like to hear from anyone with similar leanings/experience to mine

Speaking NOT from experience they are two different cars.

There are of course similarities (lightness, 'Britishness', etc) but I would say the Exige in particular is a far more focussed track beast that needs to be driven pretty hard to get satisfaction from.

I drove an S1 Elise briefly and loved it's simplicity but it was hard to get into, cramped, and just if I dare say it, a bit too kit car like for me (Awaits flaming); at the time I also owned a Westfield MegaBird so had some raw experience.

I'm rambling aimlessly, what I'm trying to say is that the Mog will be a different ownership experience and proposition whilst still giving you a taste of light sportscar feel and a raw un-coccooned driving experience.

I would also suggest your friendly local dealer ought to know more than most about these things all I know about him is that he serves nice cakes

When retirement strikes (maybe April 2013 or sooner)- one of the cars on my list is an Elise - probably with the Toyota engine. Although I have no interest in track days, the Elise appeals for the reasons Boshly has already mentioned above. Since an alternative for me would be another Morgan, I will be interested to hear any thoughts about the differences.

I owned a 44 Sport last year and noted an article which compared it to a Lotus

I went from an S2 Exige to a Morgan. I wanted a Morgan because I love how rare they are and I wanted something less raw that could still be taken on track.

The only thing I miss about my Lotus is how easy it was to drive - I do find the Morgan a lot harder to drive well (although I have an Aero - not really sure how the traditionals drive as I've only had a short test-drive in one).

I won't waffle any more - suffice to say that I've had a very happy first 6 months of Morgan ownership

I do not own a 4/4 Sport, nor have I driven one; however, I have driven both an S1 Exige and an S2 Elise.

There is an excellent thread on here regarding getting more power from the 4/4 Sport - something that is often a topic of conversation on Lotus forums regarding the S1 Exige/Elise (and even into the supercharged later versions) - therefore, I think there is a similar concern among owners who want better straight line power. Morgan Motor Company have addressed this by offering a performance pack for the 4/4 Sport. The details are as follows: -

Power Pack:
Throttle body upgrade to increase power and torque and improve throttle response. Includes new ECU and takes power from 115bhp to approximately 150 bhp.
£3,642.50 fitted.

Putting the fact that some people seek more power aside, what you will find with the Morgan is akin to buying a hand tailored suit. They are truly special cars and you cannot get away from the feeling that you are in a product that is hand crafted.

While not a track day, a test drive, on some quiet Scottish roads, should help make up your mind
