For a more floral gin such as the excellent Botanist the fever tree elderflower tonic seems to go well with a slice of cucumber. I'm also a big fan of the more citrus led Tanqueray Ten - great with the mediterranean style tonic and maybe a twist of pink grapefruit. For us we like the Botanist with a Fentimans Tonic and slices of apple. Like you we love Tank Ten with pink grapefruit, but don't like the Mediterranean tonic with any gin! We do like straight good quality tonics with our gin and at about 60% to the gins 40%...

I made some large Martinis with Martin Millers Westbourne Strength Gin a couple of years ago as an aperitif for a meal with friends I don't remember the meal or indeed anything that night about 20 minutes after !

Puts me in mind of Dorothy Parkers famous remark about Dry Martinis "I never have more than two Martinis, as after a third I'm under the table, and after a fourth I'm under my host"

Whatever my sister has in the house. Not something I keep at home. I'm totally boring as you all might have guessed regarding alcohol....drink what's put in front of me....smile or wrinkle my nose at it.....but rarely make a note of what tastes good. All too pretentious for me to be honest.
I'll stop commenting and let you all get on trying to impress one another 😉

As a young lad leaving the house for a Merchant Navy career, my dads last words of advice was "Dont drink gin".
I joined a cargo ship in London whose main commodity was Beefeeters gin bound for the US market. It was rough to abstain but I survived and to this day I drink anything but gin.

I lived in Holland for eight years in the 90's. My favorite was a Borrel in the warm evenings--Ice cold Jenever from the freezer, cold and thick, poured into a ounce and a half frozen shot glass. (jonge Jenever for the old men; oude jenever for the young men.) Chaser of a cool Heineken beer in a proper Heineken glass. Big sips of the gin, followed by big swallows of beer. Refill and repeat as necessary.

The current selection at DK's Bar: Bombay Sapphire, Sapphire East, Botanist, Brooklyn, Carounn, Cotswold, Few Chai, 27, Gordon's (a carry over form 1992), Greenhook (heavy on elderflower), Gunpowder, Hendricks, Hotel Chocolat Cocoa, Monkey 47, Perry Tot Navy, Plymouth Navy, Sipsmith, Small's (lovely light raspberry note), Tangueray Malacca, Tangueray Rangpur (about as citrusy as they come)
In terms of G&T the Small's is a lovely summer base.
Generally I like to play with the 3 flavor types: floral, citrus, juniper - and then mix with tonics which bring in a flavor which is missing from the gin - rather than doubling up.
There are then about double that number of whiskeys - possibly triple.
I really don't have a drink a problem!
