would like to hear from someone re the adjusting of the stays from the top suspension mount to the chassis , my right hand stay is slightly loose and i'm not sure if the nuts on the stay are to be adjusted or is the larger nut at the suspension end (top) the one i should be trying to adjust as i get the impression it maybe the one to pull the stay tight? with the nuts on the inside of the chassis/suspension being used to lock the stay. hope this isnt too much of a preamble but i dont think those nuts will actually take up the tension , as it is now my tyres are not cutting out so i think the alignment is ok and once i get the hang of what to adjust i may try tuning the stay as one would listening to wire wheel spokes (just a thought at this stage) thanks bruce

On My Computer the sketch did not show. Also No.3. Should read too tight not loose.

On My Old Morgans I found the rust/corrosion was too much and broke the rods when turned. Resulting in making new rods. Note the the threads are BSF. It might be better option to order new rods and end fittings from a Dealer. As I have BSF taps and dies and wrenches I made My own. But getting the broken threaded end out of the fitting was a challenge.

I have a manual called "Notes From A Morgan Garage" by Fred Sisson that also explains this procedure. It has been updated and is not called "The Bedside Morgan Reader". It is mainly +4 and '60's Morgans. Contact Me Offline and I will tell You how to get this manual.

Also I had to buy a tap with left handed threads.

thanks for your input i suspect that you have to release the nuts on the stay then turn the stay to take up the slack? i will try that as soon as i can gain access to a hoist regards bruce

Better get some rust buster. I use 50:50 Acetone and ATF (Automatic Transmission Fluid. Turn the rods with a pair of ViceGrips. If your careful and give the Rust Buster a bit of time I bet You can get it done.

But not on a hoist. You need to jack up under one end of crosshead and check that other end goes up the same distance. Check it out first and see if You really have a problem. You might not.
