My S1 now has its new exhaust, twin pipe side exit. So it is larger bore than the original & a shorter length run. The issue is when warm, & coming onto idle, say when slowing down for lights, the idle speed hunts a little. Has anyone else found this or has any suggestions please?

Bet it sounds awesome! Sorry can't help but are you sure it's the exhaust and not just a coincidence ? Like the MAF Sensor?

I have to say it sound epic, like a C63 AMG Mercedes, but subdued on the motorway.

It could be the lambda or the MAF I guess, just wondered if anyone else had a similar issue when carrying out a significant exhaust mod. I guess it'll become a process of elimination.

Does anyone know the manufacturer & correct part numbers for these 2 items (2001 4.4 S1). I'll give the ECU some miles to see if it relearns, but I suspect I'll have to start replacement these instruments one at a time. I wondered if it was something that might benefit from resetting the ECU, if I can find how to do that on a BMW forum.

I have tried to load pics without success. I tried following the idiots's guide but failed - not sure if a failure means I'm an idiot or not....

Not sure if these can be viewed

The keen eyed will note the missing indicator - now firmly reaffixed !!

Looks a very neat job. Just something to keep an eye on. On my plus 8 the pipe outlets move rearwards approximately 15mm when hot. Hence when cold, the outlets are not in the centre of the aperture.

Hi Ian,
I never had any issues when I "converted" to side exhausts, but before I certainly did and it was certainly the MAF sensor. In the end it did keep cutting out. It may be that they might be a bit dirty - might be a cheaper fix!
By the way, if you pass slowly past "new style" parked minis I have noticed on a number of occasions the exhaust rumble sets off their alarms!;)

Hi Taffy

Thanks for the thoughts on the MAF, have you got a part number or is it standard BMW 645?

If it's a BMW part, I might need to drive slowly past their affiliate Mini forecourt on the way out :-)

Deano

15mm linear expansion sounds incredible to me on an exhaust system!!
