I have snippets of information about build delays and the implications on the M3W.
Unfortunately i have been asked not to post this on the web.
However, PM me for a more detailed explanation, with the proviso that its not made public.
This should benefit those waiting for a UK or EU build.
John.

Early S&S rectifiers had a habit of failing and doing damage to the battery. The Harley unit has no such problems.
The S&S unit adjusts the current that gets sent the battery. So when it fails it fry`s the battery. The Harley unit produces Max current and dumps the excess to earth.
Thats why i asked for this unit to be replaced.
The Harley units costs £70 from Ebay. The S&S unit from Morgan costs a lot more. The mounting of the rectifier was changed in 2014. I haven't heard of any M3W having rectifier problems since. My own 2015 M3W has done 6500km's without a single issue. Why would you swap out a part that is perfectly serviceable?

The mounting of the rectifier was changed in 2014. I haven't heard of any M3W having rectifier problems since. My own 2015 M3W has done 6500km's without a single issue. Why would you swap out a part that is perfectly serviceable? I've had one of the MMC stock rectifiers fail after about 10,000 miles, mounted from new in the new position by the factory. My guess is that the newer mounting improves things a bit by reducing the amplitude of the vibration but that the real issue is the appallingly poor quality of the wires and their insulation leads inevitably to them fretting through and producing short circuits that lead to the final failure of the entire unit, with or without taking out the battery and ECU along the way!

At the risk of temping fate - the early issues were wiring related and a mod (under warranty) seems to have fixed this.
The "new" sideways mounting came later but my 2013 head on mounted rectifier with the wiring mod seems fine after 14,000 miles.

My front facing S&S rectifier started to fail at 8700 miles being unable to maintain voltage with headlamps on. I replaced the rubber mounts & remade the earth connections to no avail & fitted a HD unit at 9100 miles. I had the wiring mod which I think involved improving the earth.

Latest response from my dealer in reply to my question whether installing a non-Morgan/AR Motorsport stage 1 kit would invalidate the factory warranty:
"Morgan Motor Company would have you believe that any kind of modification or extra not provided or approved by them and fitted by an authorised Morgan dealer will invalidate your entire warranty, so my politically correct answer is "no, do not fit anything that isn't Morgan supplied or approved".
However, European law would disagree with Morgan's stance on this matter and if Morgan were to deny you a warranty claim on an item unrelated to the modification then you would undoubtedly win the argument.
The grey area comes when you fit something like an exhaust and them for unexplained reasons the engine fails - how does anyone prove that the engine failed as a direct consequence of a modified exhaust system, but that is what Morgan would likely argue?
My simple advise and philosophy in this type of issue "if in doubt - do nought!!""
This sounds sensible advice to me. I will now wait to retrofit a AR Motorsport stage 1 kit if/when they subsequently become available again and, if not, will install a G56 kit once the factory warranty has expired.

Some further info from my dealer on availability of AR Motorsport stage 1 kits to retrofit to my new car:
"I spoke to Aero Racing and they are saying the current supply issue should be resolved within 4 weeks but then they will have to wade through the back log of orders - best guess at this stage is 6-8 weeks."

Good news from my dealer: "Your new car will go in to production week commencing 26th June-17 (wk26) so if you want to see it in build consider week 27 for a visit." Fingers crossed!

Has yours gone into build ahead of your forecast date?
