Chester, this seems to say that you know how to plan a journey into a satnav, rather than use their rather primitive features. What can you advise, please? Where do I put my finger?

rgds
Stuart

that depend on where you want to start, if you want to plan all the road with your satnav, the best is to list out the road name , input it in a mapping software and from there extract a KML or GPX file all Satnav (include mobile app's) can read it easily.

if you need more details let me know exactly so i can see how to help you

Yes,
I want to plan my journey from a given start point and using a route which is unlikely to be the one determined by satnav.
I have either a windows phone or a Windows 8.1 update 2. It has google maps and HERE Drive+ loaded.
Can you please tell me what mapping software to look for?
best regards
Stuart

Stuart try Tyre to Travel easy to plot routes.

Tomtom also have a new (Certainly new to me) piece of software tomtom mydrive. This allows you to enter a start and end point and you can get the system to plot a route for you including hills and thrills.

You can then up send this to your Tomtom. I've been playing about with this an impending trip to Italy. I'd picks a route using Tyre and Google maps and the Tomtom hills and thrills automatic selection was almost identical.

With Tomtom Via models, you can also specify an exact route yourself using Google Maps and then download it to the TomTom.

I find the feature very useful as you can use Streetview whilst plotting your route to make sure you are going the pretty way.

Driving from Glasgow to Fort William this morning I spotted a couple of sharp looking, dark coloured Morgans travelling in the opposite direction.
The first one had almost past me before I realised what it was. The second had smart suite case strapped to the back. I did give a quick flash to say hi!

Who knows if they were TM'ers but it was good to see them...

Safe travels

Driving from Inverness to Dunrobin Castle this morning I came a cross a squadron of Austin Healeys heading south. Obviously returning from a weekend mission. They were spread out but travelling well - nice!
