Folks,

I've booked onto a Bell & Colvill dealer Morgan/Lotus track day at the excellent Castle Combe on Thurs 15th June and it promises to be a cracking day. The only fly in the ointment is the lack of 3-Wheelers, which means that as of today, I am the only tricycle booked on so will have to go out in sessions alone. Unfortunately the management at Castle Combe have taken the same ridiculous attitude as Goodwood in limiting 3-Wheelers to their own short sessions, for reasons only known to their nervous selves. I discovered how dull and painful this setup was a couple of years ago at the aforementioned Goodwood, as I circulated alone, much to the annoyance of the other attendees and don't wish to repeat the pointless exercise at Castle Combe.

I've just spoken to Maxine at B&C and she has 5 places left on the day (at £270 each, which includes lunch) and it would be great if a few of you were keen to experience the very flowing, and fun Castle Combe, two weeks tomorrow. B&C run very gentlemanly track days and there is a maximum of 25 cars, so right now there's only 20 booked on. Anyone else signing up in an M3W would join me for our exclusive lapping sessions, which would be fab.

If anyone's interested, Maxing can be contacted on 01483 286456 or mayling@bellandcolvill.com . Please let me know if you do book, as I will have to take the Renault Sport Spider instead should I remain the only member of the squadron attending.....

Thanks.

What's the thinking in not running 3 and 4 wheelers together? I concede it would be iffy to mix cars and motorbikes. confused

Seems there have been a few 'incidents' at Goodwood, where people who had never driven a 3-Wheeler before (nor even driven on track if I recall correctly) were given the chance at a demo/sales day. Being familiar with 4-wheels, ESP and ABS, these inexperienced folk steamed into bends way too fast and rolled them over through their incompetence. One of them reportently scared themselves by steaming into Woodcote too fast, panicked and de-clutched, only to pop the clutch up abruptly shortly after, locking the rear wheel and spinning backwards towards the inevitable roll-over. Hopeless.

Not sure if Castle Combe have suffered the same dire driving skills, but maybe word has traveled that M3W owners are all dangerous loons that cannot be trusted. Very sad really....

So I need a mate to share the 'exclusive' time with me, separated from the safe drivers that might otherwise be bashed around as we try to control our lethally dangerous tricycles.

Nice post R1NGA unfortunately I can't make this.
Do have fun and don't do anything silly 😜, remembering you've only got three wheels and not a lot of rubber up front 'so to speak' . It's a wonder they let us out at all let alone on our own.

I'm guessing it's a responsible adult you're looking for.

Unfortunately I can't make it on the 15th.

I've already suffered the Goodwood solo track experience and by the third session on my own was getting bored.

Bob17 is facing a similar problem for the BHM Goodwood day on the 6th June.

It is a ridiculous situation which as R1NGA says is spreading around the tracks. I'm sure other types of car have had far worse accidents and you don't see them being segregated.

Also, from what the chief instructor was saying about one of the Goodwood incidents I don't believe it was even a M3W as he was adamant it had "the larger rear wheel".

Anyway, good luck Phil and I hope someone comes to play with you.

Really like Castle Coombe.

Did a great track day in my JZR there ...must have been about 1998.

Happy days!

Thanks for the replies folks, but I suspect I will end up taking the Renault Spider instead, as I had to last year at Goodwood too. It's a fantastic track car, but has lots of grip and provides a different kind of 'faster but less drifty' fun...
