I would like to add one of these to my kit for the Roadster series three. I don't have a smart phone so a hand held scanner is needed. Can someone recommend a sensibly priced scanner? Thanks.

Be careful. I first bought a hand held unit but it didn't work on a Ford.

Do you not have a tablet or pc with Bluetooth?
The Torque app gives you more than just code resetting & works with a tablet.

I have an ancient windows Lenovo thingy John and a Mac laptop. I presume that I'll need a sixteen pin connector? Oh, just found a connector.

I'll happily post you my hand held unit FOC but as I say it doesn't work on a Ford. Others here hopefully can make a recommendation.

There are similar apps for Apple but I use Torque Pro on an Android tablet and phone. It worked well for me but now I have the Omex kit I don't need it for the Morgan.

You could probably find a cheap secondhand or even a new cheap tablet on the internet that would work fine. In the end it would probably cost you less than a specific reader.

My Bluetooth OBD2 adaptor looks the same as this

and it would work fine with something like this

I use a Proscan V350, works with the Duratec and have also used it on Peugeots

About £12 on ebay and cheap enough to leave in the car.

I have been using a Maxiscan MS509 for a couple of years now and it's faultless. It's also a fake copy. I state this as a genuine one at the time was over £150, a good friend and fellow mechanic put me on to the copy version which was under £50, today they can be below £30 if you can wait for them to come in from China.

I am cautious to recommend fake items unless they work faultlessly and this does. The difference, the only difference, is the genuine one will store data to transfer to a laptop for later analysis, the fake does not have a battery and user groups advise not even trying one as it has been known to cause issues.

It works with all major protocols and I have used it on many Fords (including Duratec +4's and a Roadster), Mercedes and a Jaguar, all perfectly. If all your after is a read and clear the code machine that gives you the option to live gather data and observe live values its clear screen and simple logic in use take some beating. Your choice but just looked and some are available under £25. If your into it there is even a graphic display of values that make diagnosis much simpler.

I have a cheap maxiscan ms509 too and it has been the best that I have owned. I've had cheaper readers freeze. Also have the dealer ids software. Very involved but have not used it in anger yet for fault finding.

I have an Autel. Works great on the Plus8 (Gems management). Mine is an older one no longer supported so cannot download updates any more.
Sealey are UK agents for Autel and there are many variants available.
Mine detects/corrects fault codes and has live running options , handy to view engine parameters under driving conditions. I used it to measure incoming air temp last year....quite an eye opener re under bonnet temperatures!
