Agree ...MMC should be told about this and all chassis cracks/breaks.

The white round dot is some silicone sealant. I sprayed waxoil inside the frame and filled all the holes with sealant when I got the new chassis in 2015. My 2013 chassis had more underfloor alloy panels than this one from what I remember, certainly down the center. A visual inspection may not be so easy.

Tricky weld there Ian bearing in mind the close proximity of all that hand-crafted wood? exting

If things have been moving around a bit, are your body to chassis rivets showing signs of coming loose?

Best of luck with the repair. thumbs

The welding has had to wait until after holidays as my ancient MIG welder decided it was time to die. Yes there will be plenty of water about to prevent the the ash wood frame becoming just ash. The nearby fuel tank is a consideration as well.

The rivets seem OK with no more loose ones, now that I have a bag of spare ones.

...which implies that the body hasn't been moving much w.r.t. the chassis which makes the bracket breakage even more curious.

p.s. I have a MIG welder you can borrow if you can resist the temptation of buying a new shiny one.

Many years ago I had a car Ziebart rustproofed. Some time later I could hear water sloshing around. I removed the plug in the sill & clear water gushed out. I removed the rest of the down facing plugs.
Water lying inside the tubes is not good. Can you be sure you have coated 100% of the inner surface?

You could have a good point Tim, although it was dry when I took the plug out. I will take the lower drain ones out. It looks like an excuse for a new MIG to me Bunny, thanks for the offer though.

I finally pick up my car with new chassis on Tuesday 13th after 12 weeks. I had almost forgotten how good it is to drive. It went very well via Blairgowrie, Glenshee & Braemar. I got to properly test with front exhaust baffle drilled out & its good.
The dealer removed £834 from my wallet to pay for the centa compensator parts, MMC paid labour. It has the HVH kit which seems to make no real difference only changing the bevel box peak noise to around 40mph & it still almost disappears above 60mph. I dont think the noise is any less. It will now be more difficult to change BB oil.
There are some issues with the rebuild. The steering is off centre 15deg CW masking the tacho with the spoke. It was road tested by MMC & dealer, did they not notice? The head lamp aim is off.
Though the road was only damp in places & one small shower on getting home there was some water in the footwell So I'll have to reseal floor to chassis. The velcro on the drivers mat has gone but the mats were very clean. The sound damping under th seats has gone so presumably all my taping gaps behind the seats & sound damping is missing also. I made a map pocket with 2 wooden struts between the tubes & it now does not fit properly, spacing is wider.

Well good that you have got your car back Tim - at last!

apart from the ongoing issues you list - I wish you a happy reunion - and many summer miles/smiles.

They also owe me half a tank of fuel, the dealer said it was returned almost empty so they put 10 litres in.
