I have just purchased a Launch CRP123 code reader/scanner - costs around £120 on ebay or amazon.
Its a very good bit of kit - covers OEBD2 but also ABS and air-bags on lots of makes. Goes onto my 4/4 sigma ( obviously no abs/airbags) and gives exactly the functionality of the £5000+ bit of kit we use at work.
Have used it for ABS faults on my BMW 325 as well and it works really well. Can't go wrong for the money.
PS don't think it works well on french stuff by the way!

I have now used an Autel scanner. The code P0133 appears which indicates a slow response on the 02 Sensor circuit. I turned the MIL light off and drove fifty miles. Then I stalled it in Rodez and the MIL light came back on. Turned it off and returned fifty miles home with no recurrence. However occasionally the engine runs quite fast at start up and may stay like that for 10miles or so before idling normally at 900rpm. It has only started to do this as ambient temperatures increase: during the winter it was fine. Has anyone else experienced this?

Meabh, all normal. If the engine is warm wait a few seconds to start or it can idle fast. I get the same P0133 & switch it off. Are you using cheap petrol? In my Roadster that seems to be the cause.

Hi Meabh, I recently purchased a 2010 Roadster and had the same P0133 error code come up within 100 miles of driving.... first the O2 sensor was changed, but the error still came up after about 20 miles. Currently back at the dealer to see if a solution can be found....... Will let you know the outcome, soon I hope. Incidentally I had experienced the inconsistent tick over... spooky Regards Mike

Mike Thanks for your reply. Do let me know. BHM suggested a check of the pipes connected to the charcoal canister as they have been known to leak, self seal and leak again because of rough roads, even coming adrift entirely. One can access the canister by undoing the luggage rack bolts and removing the rear undertray followed by the cover. One just needs to raise the rear end- put it on ramps for easier access. I do have a service sheet from the previous owner which shows a reset of the code indicating 02 sensor Bank 1 Sensor 1 (Lambda Sensor required) at 5139 miles. I am now at 8400 so I wonder if the sensor was changed as I bought it at 5300 in November. However II note that you still have the MIL light even though the sensor has been changed.

Seems to have helped mine a lot, at least as far as my nose can tell. The Omex system doesn't actually use the post cat sensor.
