Welcome Mike

Where are you? If UK Gott & Wynne are good insurance brokers. Are you going for new or used? Used there are many pitfalls but 2015 &2016 cars had quite a few snags sorted. An early car with mods & updates could still be a good buy.

Hi Tim
In gods county of Yorkshire England smile
Yes looking for used so 2015 onwards have all the mods already done from the factory.
I already have a lotus exige v6 so am used to the quirks that go with low volume cars but tinkering etc is not me
Cheers m

With all due respect, spend some quality time reading/searching this forum, and you'll find a wealth of knowledge and informed opinions. I'd suggest that you invest time in that first, then come back with any questions you don't find adequately covered, which I believe will be very few - based on my experience. I read about and researched M3Ws for quite a while before finally placing an order for one last October.

Blimey - that's a bit general, Where to begin? I am not a M3W driver, but I have driven one and was impressed. Others will be able to answer you more comprehensively and, as others have so far said, opt for a later model - and spend time looking through the M3W forum here. That should answer most of your questions and, no doubt, raise others. Remember, you will never again be able to straddle potholes.

Hi Mike,

+1 on what TimG said about an earlier car with appropriate mods. 2014 is the key year when things like the Centra compensator, cooling kit and chassis mods came in and these can all be retrofitted to earlier cars.

Look for one that's been used rather than kept pristine, don't be afraid of higher mileage cars.

Enjoy the hunt and this is the place for questions (and sometimes answers.................)

In your area, I would rent/hire one for a weekend and then see if your itch gets scratched, or if you need to go to the M3W doc and get a prescription for one.

I would think any of the one or two year old M3W's would be good to buy, but mileage and options are all isolated to that one M3W. There should be a fair amount of used ones in the UK, and some probably considerably lower than new.

I wish you luck my friend. As previously said, there is a wealth of information on this forum and you'll find the guys/gals are very helpful. There are quite a few I'm sure local to your area.

Happy hunting...

As a fellow Yorkshireman can I suggest that if your not up to a bit of tinkering yourself, then an M3W may not be for you. You will need to be reliant on a sympathetic dealer, and there are many around, but they all have their limits.

Unsure what your goals in ownership are, but flexibility will likely be needed.

Not sure what part of Yorkshire your from, but found Phil Ledgerwood (just over the bridge in Lincolnshire) excellent, and so did the factory by all accounts, suggesting that he performed a better PDI than they could.

I sort of expected you to be located in North Devon rather than Yorkshire with your user name. Your Lotus Exige V6 will give you little insight into running a M3W. Lotus have made big improvements in recent years and now make a relatively well sorted, modern car with few reliability and build problems by comparison to Morgan. I know, I have an Evora as well as a M3W and there is little in common in any way, part of the reason I have both of them.

An out of warranty car may not be for you if you are not prepared to "tinker" a bit and expect quick dealer back up. If the itch is still there, some older well used and maintained cars with all the updates can be a good buy, often better than a low mileage example

Thanks for your comments guys much appreciated
I have just sold my reliant robin which I owned for 10 years !
And never got my hands dirty ! Once it was running and maintained it worked well so was hoping the same, I was hoping for the motorcycle experience in a safer package
I have been a lurker in here for quite sometime so have been building my knowledge up
How much are we talking roughly to do the chassis, drive, and cooling upgrades roughly are we talking £1000 ? £2000??
Barnstable was my dog by the way!
Cheers guys
M
