Not sure if the TD range suffered from halfshaft weakness, but it's one possible cause.

I'm not up on my MG's but I too don't think it's a Morgan from the wing and bulkhead shape
I wish the occupants a full and speedy recovery as somebody owning and driving a car like that feels to me to be part of the wider Morgan era and classic car community

Just another thought that from seeing that overturned wreck of an old car with similar properties to a trad Morgan, it is heartening to think that both occupants are alive and their injuries are stated as non-life threatening

Whilst it is possible that a half shaft broke, or the wheels nuts or studs broke or came undone, given that the car is probably over 60 tears old, so metal fatigue may have played a part, it also brings up the question of roll over bars on our cars, and could this type of accident be a possibility?

I'd say more like a certainty!

The main reason I have an Aero Racing Roll over bar on the Plus 8 is to give a bit more protection should the worst happen.

I think it also looks good!

The windscreen on a modern Trad is secured to nothing more substantial than a double thickness of aluminium sheet over the scuttle using on each side 3 x what look like M5 nuts and bolts.

So, in that particular scenario a modern trad without a roll over bar would result in exactly the same picture.

Hmm. I'd differentiate between phraseology here.

The "type of accident" being a possibility is rather a leading phrase, as all accidents are by nature, possible. But the cause of the rollover is as yet unknown and thus speculative.

Whether or not you'd be hurt if your Morgan flipped upside down is a little easier to answer. In fact, I'd bet money on that one..!

However...whilst a roll over bar setup is the obvious answer, it wouldn't automatically prevent any injuries. It would certainly increase your survival rate, but heads vs solid objects isn't such an exact science, and hitting anything with your head whether it be a bar or tarmac is still unfortunately possible.

Have a roll over bar fitted by all means, but manufacturers spend a huge amount of money to ensure heads don't collide with anything at such times, and just because you have a bar a few inches above your head isn't a cast iron guarantee.

We all drive Morgans and we all take the risk, but as always you can mitigate a lot of the risk, mainly by driving safely but also by adding secondary features such as a roll over bar.

Ultimately, we take that choice. Or we'd be taking the latest five starred Ncap rated car.

So sad to see that photo, though. Guessing that the mainstream Classic press will talk more, too.
