Peter, The only sensor visible on the exhaust is plugged into the front of the cat - on mine anyway unless I'm missing something.

Ford's can be very fussy with Lambda sensors ask Morgan if they use genuine ford ones or third party derivatives.

I had 2 faults just after getting he Plus8....2002 car. Random intermittent misfire Evap fault. Maxiscan diagnosed and removed them. They occasionally came back. I used Shell V-Power for a few tanks and they have never returned. I now use it every other/3rd tankfull. I sense the engine runs better but nothing spectacular. I also put short lengths of heat shield around the plug lead ends as they sit very close between exhaust manifold sections. Plugs were new, Magnicor leads all fitting properly. As for the Lambda sensors, The car has a history of being on the limits at MOT. No fails, just very close. I make sure the car is at a good temp before the MOT....a couple of nice roads nearby to get the heat up

Hi Meabh, The car was returned on Thursday, so I have only had a few short runs to date, no problems so far. They recon the first new sensor they fitted was faulty, so replaced with another new one. Not much help sorry.. Regards Mike

Thank you Mike. I took my sensor out this morning. It was smoky in colour but not very dirty. Following Peter's tip I bought two spacers from `janspeed. For the moment I have fitted the spacer to the nearside Cat. My sensor is connected to the front of the Cat. I will need to check to ascertain whether I should do the same to the offside Cat. It is too soon to know whether the MIL light will remain off and as the code indicates a weak signal to the oxygen sensor I need to discover the cause. If anyone has any suggestions I would be pleased to here them.

Just an update - on reflection overnight I decided to remove the spacer on the left bank thinking about what the sensor actually does. I also thought to swap left with right ( Brett at BHM suggested this too) but the left is much shorter than the right so won't reach the connector. I also noticed that the connector plug on the left bank is green whereas the righthand side is blue. So far I have not discovered the reason for this. The sensors themselves are different lengths with the left being shorter than the right. I tried to post a photo but although small I keep being told its over 1000. TANT PIS.
