I thought I had read some time ago, probably on PH that someone had an upgrade on there electric windows on a MKI or MKII that opened the windows a little when the door was opened, I am not sure what this system is called.

What I want to know is if this is a simple BMW upgrade, or if there is a retro fit 3rd party option that can be fitted. I am asking because having driven a MKIII the other week I spotted that there was a much larger rubber piece as the top of the windscreen, door window join and thought that if I could retro fit a system to open the window a small amount then the same rubber block could be fitted to my MKI thus reducing wind noise and helping to waterproof the car.

Standard on Mark II.

It has been available on BMW's and other cars for as very long time so cant be hard to replicate? I am no technical wizard though (far from it) so await Cereal/Kin/Aerofrog/Mr_Tony with bated breath.

Not sure about the upgrade.. one company that deals with this sort of upgrade (in general) is www.mods4cars.com . They regularly advertise and deal with Porsche, BMW, Audi electronic upgrades to control roof, windows etc...? Although not sure what they could offer without calling them.

However with the doors and more significantly window guides correctly aligned, there should not be a massive amount of wind noise coming from this area.. if you can fit more than a matchstick right in the corner then there is some adjustment needed....

I've had mine adjusted reciently as they were very bad.. ie. I could stick fingers between the glass and the roof from the inside!!! OK probably a more exagerated example but you get the idea.

Take some pics of the problem area from the inside aiming up into the corner from the driving position and also from in front of the "A" pillar aiming down the side of the car.. this should show if the window guide (which butts up against the "A" pilar is out of alignment..)

I would investigate this first as it a cheep fix and could save some butchering of the interior trying to fit some electrical mod and door position sensor.....

Is it easy to adjust the hight of the glass window ,by removing the inside door panel and adjust simply with the small bracket inside holding the complet glass.

I've a pic somewhere... I'll try to find it.. It shows the interior of the door.

If the glass does not slide to the top of the quarterlight guide upto the roof.. then the glass is not running the full height.

If it is and the glass is still not mateing with the roof, then it "may" need elevating.. which could be possible by putting in spacers or lifting the glass only.. although it depends on the tollorance on the "A" pillar.

I'd need to see it really.... PICS....

If you do, include a pic from the side showing the "A" pillar / door leading edge gap (if any).

LOL laugh Just because I've posted up a couple of pics of the dipstick, it doesn't make me a tech wizard... blush confused2 (that honour must goes to cerealsurfer) Although, when I test drove the 2003 S1 aero; I was fairly sure that the window moved when the door was opened...
