I insured the M3W with Grundy and switched my Lotus from Liberty Mutual to Grundy and I'm paying $1,082 for both cars. Couldn't enter 2017 in the drop down so just entered 2015 then called and had them change it over the phone. That seems like a pretty good deal. Hagerty is really competitive when insuring vintage vehicles, not so much with late models. My 57' +4 with a $30k value is only $120 a year.

Hi, sorry newb here, our M3W is supposed to being air freighted this week to CA, so having had my current car insurer (Liberty Mutual) decline to insure it, I looked up this forum to get some ideas. Quotes I'm getting for $45k value from Hagerty: $855 (considered an auto, not m/c), State Farm: $898 (as a m/c, $100k/300k, $500 deductable) but State Farm stated that insured must have a m/c license, my understanding, though information is hard to come by is that M3W doesn't need to have m/c license to drive in CA ... anyone know any different, or know where I can explicitly find government info on it (I can't find anything on CA DMV website) ... or have any idea how i can obtain quotes closer to those listed in this thread?
Also, I like the idea of classic car agreed value insurance, but what concerns me about those policies is that they all seem to say can't be used as a back up car, common, if I want to drive it to work occasionally for the fun of it or go get the groceries in it (and no, it wouldn't be daily driver), I want to be able to and know it's covered ... any words of wisdom from folks that have had this type of insurance for a while? thanks.
Also, can someone point me to the link for Grundy Worldwide (there was talk about a dropdown?? I went to Grundy Collector Car insurance website, filled out the form and they came back and said they couldn't insure just 1 classic car .... ???

I switched from Haggerty to Grundy and went from $1,000 to $600 for equal coverage. Couldn't do it online ( no dropdown)... phoned it in.

Try Allstate. They have the Morgan 3 Wheeler in their database and offer good rates.

When you do the Grundy quote, it may not have the drop down for the new Morgan. Go a few years back like 2014 or 2015 and it's there. Complete the quote then just call them and have them manually update the year to 2017. That's what I did and then gave them my credit card and was quickly insured.

Thank you for all the replies, I have a request in for an Allstate quote. I also got a Heacock Classic quote for $570.76 (insured as auto), but again, not covered if I drive it to work so my colleagues can gawp at it so i'm leaning towards regular insurance, at least for the first couple of years. Initially i found the Grundy worldwide site with the dropdown and indeed it worked if i put in 2015, but now i can't find the site again ... can someone please provide the link?? ... the grundy links I'm finding now come up with a huge form to fill in and that's the site that came back and told me they wouldn't insure just 1 classic car.
btw Ace, I like your car taste, I used to drive a Lotus Elise (yellow) - what fun.

Check JC Taylor. They didn't have the restrictions when I was searching.
Cheers,

Allstate Agent says the underwriter he spoke with won't insure M3W, but pretty sure some of you have insurance, anyone willing to give me your name so I can have quote replicated, sometimes it's a case of pointing out the obvious to them, if you don't want to post on open forum, would appreciate if you'd e-mail me at: julespilot@yahoo.com ... the agent has asked for a policy number, i know this is a big ask, but right now for regular insurance i have a choice of just one (state farm), allstate has better BBB rating so i'd really like to get a quote from them :-( ... on the bright side, our M3W has been delivered to LHR for airfreight out on Friday 6/30, yey!!
... Thanks Mark for the JC Taylor, looking at their website, they have very little definition of their policy, but says "occasional pleasure drive ok", I suspect it will be much like Heacock in that you can go out to dinner in it but not for a loaf of bread or take it to work just for the fun of it, but I will certainly give them a call and add them to my list of quotes, thanks.
... contacted a different Allstate agent, evidently one that was a little more well informed and he told me Allstate would indeed underwrite it, just waiting on the quote ...

Seriously, unless you're actually using it daily to commute, "pleasure use" and "occasional use" cover a pretty wide swath of usage. Grundy's definition of the requirements, from their website, are:
"How Can I Use My Car?
Grundy wants you to enjoy your car, not keep track of mileage like some programs with limitations. Therefore, we give you unlimited miles for pleasure driving and in collector car-oriented activities. It is even OK if occasionally you drive your collector car to work to show it off to friends. However, your collector car must not be used as a daily driver. We require you and all licensed drivers in your household to have a modern car for everyday use.
When you have your car at home, it must be kept in an enclosed, secure garage when not in use. If you are away from home on extended outings your car is fully protected if you must park it outside, for example in a hotel parking lot. Grundy coverage includes Trip Interruption that reimburses you for hotel and repair costs in the event of a breakdown, and we also reimburse you for towing and labor charges up to $250. You can count on Grundy as you cruise."
I've been using them for years, covering everything from my '55 MG to my '07 Lotus, and now my '17 M3W. No issues, and they are a pleasure to deal with when I've needed anything.
