Grundy quote $518.76/yr ... just need to figure out where i can download the policy detail ... but as stated by others, I had to use 2015 in the drop down to get Morgan to appear as an option ... I explicitly selected the radial that said "yes" to it being used for errands and as a back-up to daily driver ... via their on-line quote system.

just for completeness, Allstate, great local Agent finally figured it out, m/c insurance but they do have in their system (unlike state farm) that you only need c class license to drive a M3W 100/300 with 500 deductible = $832.18 ... so for me Grundy is the winner - cheapest, agreed value full coverage and enough miles and leeway in "for pleasure" to make it work for us. Thanks for your feedback everyone.

Agreed. I shopped myself and switched from Haggerty to Grundy after being with Haggerty for years with other collectibles.

Thanks for your feedback everyone. Somewhat related to the insurance and not totally a hijack, if in CA you only need to have a standard license to drive a M3W, what happens when driving out of state and you get stopped and in that state they require the "M" endorsement? Do you get a ticket for driving without the correct license? The same would hold true here. You live in IL and riding a motorcycle without a helmet, no helmet law in IL, and you cross over into MO, a helmet law state. If you're not wearing a helmet in MO, you get a ticket. Now back to the insurance part of this. "What if" you're driving in NV, OR etc and they require the "M" endorsement AND you're in an accident. Because you don't meet that state's minimum requirement to drive, will your insurance company renege on the coverage because you do not meet the "legal" requirement to be driving in that state? With states now inventing categories for the Slingshot, Elio and M3W, like cyclecar etc, the laws are all over the place. If you ONLY drive in CA, you're probably safe, but I would error on the safe side and have an "M" endorsement just in case. Cops don't always know their own new laws and these kind of trikes are not all that popular yet. I hope you have many miles of smiles with your M3W...

Interesting question... I don't expect out-of-state license "M" endorsement to ever be an issue. Other than CDL (commercial license), licenses are specific to each state. I suppose that if you were driving a vehicle licensed/plated in a state that requires an endorsement in that state, and you have a license from a different state without an endorsement, you could have a problem. It would be about the last thing I'd worry about however. I suspect helmet issues are far more likely to initiate an traffic stop out-of-state, but even in nutty states like NJ, where helmets are required on bikes, they are not required in "enclosed" vehicles like the M3W.

and yet the crazy part is that helmets are technically required in CA ... perhaps if the "autocycle" classification is more widely adopted as time goes on, things will even out a bit ... I agree, best to have a M1 just in case (saves having to argue a technicality wherever you may be).
.... hmmm, upon further research, if I'm reading this right, helmets are not required in CA for a M3W ...
California Vehicle Code 27803 (f) This section does not apply to a person operating, or riding as a passenger in, a fully enclosed (define fully enclosed??) three-wheeled motor vehicle that is not less than seven feet in length (M3W = 10.58 ft long) and not less than four feet in width (M3W = 5.64 ft wide), and has an unladen weight of 900 pounds or more (M3W = 1157 lbs), if the vehicle meets or exceeds all of the requirements of this code, the Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards, and the rules and regulations adopted by the United States Department of Transportation and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

I live in Carefree, AZ. Had Heacock on my 58 and 86 Mogs. When the 3-Wheeler arrived in 2012 they immediately insured it. Usual limited use restrictions.
$571.00 for 2017.
Value at $55,548.00

... and so having decided on Grundy, I diligently filled out my quote paperwork and sent it in, I checked the box for "will you drive it to work" since their website and sales person said "It is even OK if occasionally you drive your collector car to work to show it off to friends", I annotated in the remarks section that it would not be used as a daily driver, just driven to work occasionally per their stated coverage ... to which they sent me a form to sign "Acknowledgement of use" that explicitly stated "It will not be driven to work or school or used for business or commercial purposes." ... so, I wouldn't have a leg to stand on in a court of law other than a sales person said it was ok to drive it to work occasionally ... I explained courteously my concern that the document they were asking me to sign conflicted their stated coverage and was told sign the document or we decline your coverage, I asked to speak to a manager about my concern and was told that I couldn't and that they would simply reiterate what i was being told, i asked again and was told I had been declined. Hmmm ... so, Allstate it is, at least I can use my M3W however and whenever I see fit and not have it be a very expensive dust collecting paperweight.
