I am about to order a Mota Lita steering wheel for my 2011 1.6 sport which is still fitted with the factory fit plastic wheel

Trying to decide on a Mk5 or Mk9 flat

There is a choice of 2 bosses a B71J and a B71 Narrow Back. Can anyone explain the difference please

Regards
Steve

I can't help you with the boss but I too have a 4/4 sport with a painted dash and no wood on show at all in the car. I have a Mota Lita wood 3 spoke fitted by the first owner.

To me it doesn't really fit with the interior. I suppose it would if it had a wood dash but I didn't want one in my Sport.

I was toying with buying a black leather 14" Mk4 but I have saddle leather so again it won't really match being a black leather tiller and nothing else black in the car (save the carpets)

So....

I decided I wanted a saddle leather Mk4 Mota Lita flat with holes 14" polished spokes! They don't do one on their site but will accommodate bespoke orders if you ask nicely. So I sourced a new piece of 50" long and 8" wide (1.2mm thick) Muirhead leather from Allon White and will get my wheel in 5 weeks!

I can confirm a bespoke wheel wheel is the same price as a standard wheel on their site.

It's all rock n roll!

I can't comment on the difference between the bosses but you might like to consider the boss that Williams sell. It is made by motolita for them, brings the wheel slightly closer to the dash and neatly hides the ugly gap in the steering column shroud.

KR200,
Thanks for your thoughts.
My 4/4 is in Red with a painted dash and light brown leather (saddle?). So a similar situation. The only thing that is black is the plastic casing on the steering column. It did have one of those rather horrible black Ford parts bin rear view mirrors but that's long been replaced. I like your solution of sourcing some leather from Allon White. Might consider doing the same

You said your car was fitted with a wooden trimmed mk4. Do you still have it? Maybe we could do a deal

Jay,

Thanks for your suggestion.

I was wondering how well a new steering wheel will fit against the plastic steering column housing. More investigation needed

Hi Steve S

Yes I still have it but need it to steer the car as my Moto Lita is not due for a good while yet. I just ordered it.

If iI sell the wood rim it I'll put it on TM or Ebay but I'll probably keep it as then I can swap them around.

I too got rid of the hideous rear view mirror. The next job is the number plate front mounting box monstrosity. What the hell is that all about?!! I know it's legislation but it looks utterly wrong. In the bin it is going in short order following the mirror!

I am an utter luddite so also find the rear plate mounting nasty. On my 1st 4/4 I relocated it but you can't on late cars.

I bought a 4/4 new in 2000. A poor vintage is the 2000 build year - I had the car for only a matter of weeks and sent it back - ask me how I know...

IMPHO the sigma motor/mazda box 4/4 sport (2013 to date) is the best of the lot and where the clever money goes.. They are utterly brilliant. Light, nimble, pokey enough and have the correct sublime looks of the original concept. The Mazda box really nails it and is the cherry on the cake over the MT75.

I will be getting an ally front valance from Cain shortly so my Grey 4/4 will look identical to the grey 4/4 sport on his site..
