Yes Paul. Herr Heinkel was at the cutting edge. The very first, by compressed air. Ejection seats took about five more years to evolve.
A beautiful design but apparently underpowered. They tried screwing a jet engine under the fuselage but the increased drag offset the extra thrust.
I once had a 1:72 model of the Uhu.

I am reading all Eric ambler's novels, jolly good stuff. I'm a huge fan of Ambler. I rate 'Passage of arms' as one of my favorite thrillers ever.
