I have that boss on my Roadster, although I fitted a leather collar to stop the reflection in the windscreen.

This boss was fitted by BHM to my 4/4 Anniversary. It looks slighty shorter, but the column shroud is different. The benefit of this boss is that it fills the hole in the shroud, as Jay mentioned above.

I had the same problem as this and purchased a short boss via Williams it made a big difference.

I went for a moto-lita leather wheel in the end to replace the thin wood one i had.

As promised, so here is my Moto Lita wheel.
It is a Mark Four Leather (Flat) and was £230 including the boss.

More surprisingly, it is a 13inch diameter.
That goes some way to explaining the heaviness, before having steering bearings fitted this year.

And it does stick out a fair way due to the long boss.
Good job I am not challenged in any physical department...

Fitted a MotoLita leather last night. Went for a short trip to town this morning. A very nice feel compared to the thin wooden one. It is the flat 15" one with the hole spokes like the one in the photo above and no clearance issues. I like it. Feels more substantial and comfortable. A thick wooden one would be ok I think. The wooden ones look great and I did get used to it and gloves improved the feel, but the leather is more tactile. You can't beat a bit of leather!

It's all down to seat position. Having driven the car again that I described above, with the seat back and also more reclined, I found it acceptably comfortable, especially with my R elbow out.

All this talk over steering wheels 🙄. It's made me take off my Brooklands wheel on a modified Williams boss and replace it with my 14" leather rimmed Motolita on a similar boss. I can now clearly see the revcounter and it is slightly larger diameter than the Brooklands. Nice!

I must say the the visibility of the tachometer and speedo was hopeless with wheel up and only marginally better with it down. Hey ho, I suppose that will encourage a new dash a few years down the line....
