Those Ariels make a lot of sense, both financially and as a pure unadulterated fun car. The Nomad particularly is getting a lot of praise in certain quarters. The problem is the nearly 2 year waiting list for them!

And yes, I think it is even more hard core than a Seven, in fact the Seven looks decidedly pansy in comparison.

Fun Cup Race Car

A Mid engined, space framed, sequential gearbox, single seater with a beetle look a like body.

Hmmm. Try Aeroman's and my Westfield FW400, which is a seven, most people would say the Atom or Nomad make better road cars and are curtainly easier to drive. The Hewland gearbox is a straight cut dog box. Here is how hewland recommend one should change gear:

"Manual with Engine Cut:

This system is almost as good as an automated one as long as the driver pulls the lever very quickly. A `cheat` version of this is to shift on the engine rev limiter, which can work well. With this system it is especially important to move the lever as fast as possible. Otherwise the engine will be reinstated during partial dog engagement, causing damage. The damage can usually be felt by the driver."

Down changes take more getting used to.

Interesting, will it be for track days or are you going to race it? What engine do the use?

I've now got a Yamaha R1 engined Caterham with the 6 speed sequential bike box, which must be similar to the Hewland box to use, no clutch on the up changes, as long as the lever is pulled back with speed and deliberation, down changes are still being mastered as it's too easy to blip the revs too high, as there is such a small rev drop. It's got a manual reverse though, this means I get out and push it backwards!

I still fancy one of those Nomads but can't get my head around not having any bodywork.

I looked at the Nomad at launch at Autosport but made the mistake of ordering a Zenos. Bad mistake.

Your Seven sounds really great fun. I have always fancied a BEC but not had one yet.

The plan for the Fun Cup is to do the U.K. Championship next year so we can qualify for the 25 hours of Spa 2019. I will do some testing in the fun cup.

I share a couple of track days cars, including the Westfield, which I need to use too. I am at Silverstone tomorrow with Aeroman's and my Ultima. Very excited to try it out since it has had a lot of work done recently. It should be quick!

I guess we'd better get a TM support/fan group going to follow your circuit activities! grin2

Ultima's with the correct engine are around 3 sec 0-60 anyway so not sure how quick you mean !

When a street guy says quick, he means 0-60. When a racer says quick, they mean lap time - that's a whole lot more than just engine... spend
