I think I’ve been bitten by the Roadster bug. Despite its silly modern dashboard layout that I’m still not sure I could live with - the speedo being way off to the left and having just the clock directly in front of the driver is a bit bonkers and the whole design is hardly in keeping with the character of the car - I’m considering up-grading to a 3.7 Roadster. To be within budget it will probably have to be 3 – 4ish years old, and preferably one that’s not had a prang! (I’ve visited a few dealers recently and I’ve been surprised at the number of bent Roadsters awaiting bodywork repairs, usually to the front, that I’ve come across. Is the ‘throttle hang’ issue more serious than we thought? And the brakes can’t be that bad in them, surely??) So I’m asking all you past and present 3.7 Roadster owners out there if there’s anything else I should be looking out for in my quest to find a replacement that’s in as good a condition as my trusty old +4. Any help or suggestions (or possible cars!) would be gratefully received.

Also try a Series 1 3.0 Litre. Plenty fast enough, a good design of dash and no rev hanging.

Have a chat to Adrian (AJSki2fly) on here he had a lot to do with the rev hanging issue in conjunction with the factory. He also had the front brakes improved in conjunction with Williams.
From what I read on here the feeling is they are a little too over powered for the chassis, this maybe explains the damaged one's you have seen.

Not sure if I'm correct as have never driven a roadster ( would love to mind) but my observation at the Brooklands test hill is that they can struggle to get the power down when driven with gusto ( i guess this could well be classed as fun!) and I'll be corrected by those who know but i would imagine a 3.7 on the standard chassis/suspension set up would be quite a handful and maybe over-powered? Others will no doubt put me right but maybe suspension mods are the way to go to help tame the beast!
Perhaps all those bashed ones are drivers running out of talent?

I didn't find mine over powered - nor did it have a rev hang issue. But the engine sounded like a bag of spanners at around 2,750rpm, very rattly. Fun car to drive hard - heavier and more planted than the +4.

I switched from a Plus 4 to a 3.7 Roadster last October. Took some time to adjust to the extra power but you nailed it when you described it as a bug. Loved my the Plus 4 but there is something about the Roadster .......

Hi Dave. My first drive in a Roadster was in a Series 1, and I thought then 'ooh, this is nice, I could take to this...'. Then I drove a 3.7 a week or so later and thought 'ooooh, this is even better!'. Apart from the bonkers dash (you're right, the Series 1 has the best, and most logical dash arrangement), I was impressed by the way the 3.7 felt on the road. Maybe it was the power steering, maybe it was the weight of the car, maybe because it was a much later car (the Series 1 I drove was a 2004, the 3.7 a 2014 model) but it certainly felt more settled and smoother to me. It did seem to suffer a wee bit from rev hang, but I didn't think it was too much to worry about, so maybe it had been sorted on this particular car.
