I'd imagine that it's quite lively from 70mph then, if it's running at around 3k rpm. Through the gears it's quite similar to the Maser gearing wise. The main difference being I've currently got one more. Mine will pull a genuine 150mph in 5th with a gear to go. I've not had it flat out, but have done a few track events with it where it's stretched it's legs a bit.

If you feel you would miss a big lazy V8 too much when changing from the Maser don't rule out the Aero based +8. More expensive agreed, but that BMW V8 has bags of grunt, totally docile in town , and the suspension is MUCH more comfortable than a trad Morgan.
I think there is only one major downside and that is the small luggage space behind the seats , necessitating a luggage rack on the rear panel to carry bag/s or case/s. The looks are not everyone's cup of tea perhaps, but they do grow on you, and it is electrifying fast.

I'd have one in a heartbeat, but, sadly, funds won't allow as it's a bit too much of a stretch.

Just picked up my latest Morgan, a +4 Supersport in Almond Green. I did a 700 mile round trip on Tuesday to pick the car up from Revolutions ( great service from Russell and Co as always) in Perth, i have owned many different types of Morgan over the years but this is something special, one minute you are cruising in the 60's styled nostalgia and then when you take it above 5000 revs it turns into a roaring beast!!Its early days yet and i have not had much chance to put the car through its paces yet but my opinion is that the +4 ss has the best balance of power and handling of all the Traditional Morgan models and i really like the no frills back to basics styling.

I do like the SS.
Unfortunately not driven one - couldn't fit my rear in a bucket seat in one car that was brought to Prescott... laugh2

Enjoy! drive

Trev,

Welcome from Wiltshire!

We started with a S2 Roadster, great fun, quick enough, but not modern 400bhp Maserati quick and the gearbox is, to be honest, the worst part of the car. The S1 is much better.

We migrated after a couple of years to a 2014 Plus 8 Auto with paddle shift. It is really a modern car with a Morgan body. Blisteringly quick, although our AMG C43 is quicker, mainly because the 4Matic transmission gets the power down. The road tax is also high, £530 from memory.. and 30mpg is barely achievable. Insurance, from a reputable broker for 2 driving, unlimited milage and an agreed value is less than the road tax....

Don't believe the stories about lack of storage, it is no different to any other 2 seater trad, room for 2 to 3 soft bags behind the seats and a pair of cases (or bails of shavings for the stable, see the photo later..) on the rack. It is also wider inside than the Roadster by about 6", so space for small bags between the seat and door.

One other key point: you say you can't stretch to a Plus 8. Yes, the initial cost is high, but on a used one you are unlikely to see any real depreciation. Very different to a Maserati.....or most other performance cars.
We bought the Plus 8 in late 2014: today it is worth, on paper, slightly more than we paid... not an investment, but great value motoring!

Peter

Peter, very true I have always sold my Mogs for the same or more than I paid for them after 5 & 7 years respectively and 25-30k miles added to the clock.
