Good for you Sid. Photos please Hi John. I did have a drive in the car - but I didn't buy it! On the face of it the car looked OK, but to my experienced (!) eye it was obvious that it had had a bump and in my opinion the repairs just weren't up to scratch. I must admit to being a little surprised that it was on a dealer's forecourt in that state, but to someone far less critical than me it could be a reasonable buy I suppose. So I'm still looking for that ideal Roadster...

I think you should definitely try the 3.7.... I love driving them... On a dry day its very quick! On a wet day you have to drive accordingly. I can see the comments on the dash.... But i don't find that too much of a problem, once you drive the car and it comes to life it really does have the feel of a brilliant Morgan. Romanticism, nostalgia and a great burble, an all round visceral experience!!
I'm organising a roadster demo weekend (potentially end of this month) if you would like to try one?
There will be cake and tea!!

I didn't find mine over powered - nor did it have a rev hang issue. But the engine sounded like a bag of spanners at around 2,750rpm, very rattly. Fun car to drive hard - heavier and more planted than the +4. Interesting about the engine noise, as the one I tried also sounded very 'snarly' above 3000rpm or so. Is that a trait of that engine, I wonder? This particular car also had sports silencers fitted which made it rather loud (too loud and uncomfortable for me), so it was a bit of an audio assault from both the front and rear of the car at times during my test drive. At least it's confirmed for me that if and when I get myself a Roadster I'll stick with the standard exhaust system. If only they did a different dash...

Sid, my S1 3l has the standard exhaust & it and the engine are very quiet. To be honest after louder Mogs I really like it. John

There will be cake and tea!! It could be worth the treck down there (and I could make a long weekend of it), especially if you've got any 3 - 4 year old, low mileage, immaculate Roadsters in stock!

Sid, my S1 3l has the standard exhaust & it and the engine are very quiet. To be honest after louder Mogs I really like it. John I can certainly appreciate the appeal of the S1, and if I can't find a suitable 3.7 (are they referred to as the S3?), then I may have to reconsider my options. The lack of ground clearance in the S1 is an issue for me. In my +4 I've managed to get nearly 120mm of clearance by shortening the rebound springs and changing to 195x65 tyres, which has given me far greater confidence to go anywhere without running the risk of it grounding. So now, roadside verges, rutted country lanes, raised ironwork and those bleedin' speed humps hold no fear! So I'd be very reluctant to change to anything that I felt compromised things. I know fitting a Mulfab sump helps, but I'm not sure that this improves things sufficiently, but I'm willing to be told otherwise by those in the know. Who knows, I might be tempted by an S1 after all...

Sid, I have the Mulfab sump. So far the thing that bottoms is the gearbox hanger.
You learn to live with it I guess. John
