My next car will be a hybrid but I'll be waiting four or five years to see what new or improved systems are out there. I'll still have Nero though for those petrol days! And the motorbike. No body has mentioned those officially....I'd hate an electric bike.......oh.....I have one!

Actually you have a hybrid bike Except perhaps one could say it is an inverse hybrid where the battery provides the main motive force but has to be supplemented by another energy source. Have you tried peddling it up hill with a flat battery? It will convince you to make sure you always leave home with a good reserve

I have ridden it up hill without power Peter........the motor cut out suddenly. Not as difficult as I might have thought apart from the extra weight of the bike. On mine luckily the motor disengages completely.

Took the bike back to the shop as it would not "fire" up. They checked it over and told me that it was a loose connection....and then very subtly told me that I'd not fitted the handlebar display fully! When off that disables the system.

Yes, but having asked, the expected cost of converting a Morgan is £45k to give 150 miles range!!

At that price there should soon be some competition on the block to bring the price down.

Personally, I think money would have to be no object, or the owner certified clinically insane, to convert classics like old 911s into washing machines - certainly at the moment. Must be the fastest way to lose money on a classic.

Did anyone not see the all electric "Plus E" that was at Shelsley a few years back?

It was quick and the spec for the mileage over battery life was pretty good. If I remember correctly they put it on hold to wait for better battery technology...

It looked exactly the same as a trad, id definitely buy one if they produce it!

And that's the thing. We will get over gears, oil changes and Co2 pretty quickly. I know it's heresy and I know I will be tarred and feathered and driven out of Morganville by an angry mob but - I can imagine my old 4/4 being a very lively and interesting drive with one of them new fangled electric motors spinning the wheels. I would want an old fangled Morgan as well but can't rule out a silent wheel-spinning lovely mog. k

If you reallly analyse the Morgan experience, it is that bonnet and the handling that really shines. The petrol engine is important but it is not the real basis of the experience. I would have an electric Morgan. One day, the hydrocarbons will run out. Happy to stay on the road regardless of the fuel.

I see that Charles Morgan and Matt Humphries have teamed up again at the Alcraft Motor Company which has ambitious plans to produce a new electric vehicle in 2019. Looking for crowdfunding if anyone fancies their chances.
